      Position overview:

      The Henney Department of Education’s reading coach is a three-year, Lilly grant funded position. The reading coach will mentor and guide education faculty and elementary education teacher candidates as they master the use of the Science of Reading in reading instruction. They will offer professional development as well as run the Henney Department’s reading lab, offering reading intervention and enrichment opportunities as well as plan and conduct a Summer Slide reading camp for nine weeks in the summer.

      Essential job functions:

      • Support the Henney Department of Education in the design and implementation of the Spartan Reading Lab
      • Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Experience to support the required clinical experience hours for elementary teaching candidates
      • Collaborate with the principal investigators to curate and implement professional development/trainings for elementary education teacher candidates,
      • Design and implement the Summer Slide Academy, a reading camp that runs from the first week of June through the first week of August.
      • Train Summer Slide interns.

      Qualifications:

      • A commitment to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion among students, faculty, and staff.
      • Masters’ degree required
      • Experience as a reading coach preferred
      • PreK- 6th grade experience preferred
      • Trained in Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) or willingness to receive training
      • Must be highly self-directed, well-organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable completing tasks with minimal direct supervision
      • Must possess the ability to multitask and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously while completing assigned tasks in an accurate and timely manner
      • Must be highly proficient in written communication and possess polished oral communication skills
      • Must be able to consistently present a positive attitude and contribute to a harmonious team environment
      • Must maintain confidentiality
      • Must possess a basic knowledge of computers

      Work schedule: This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time position, requiring 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during the academic year, and 25 hours per week during the summer. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be required.
