- Provides direct services to consumers consistent with established treatment plans and Evidence Based Practices, which may include but is not limited to sharing personal story of recovery; providing encouragement and acting as a role model of competency in recovery; and offering or recommending specific treatment modalities specific to promoting recovery.
- Conducts screenings to identify the presence of a substance use disorder and/or the risk of potential overdose.
- Provides brief intervention which could include motivational enhancement, sharing personal experience, and/or relapse prevention planning
- Train on the use of Narcan and other overdose prevention strategies.
- Assist with connecting consumers with community providers.
- Attends team meetings and other meetings as necessary, which may include meetings with other Recovery Coaches and/or substance use disorder treatment agencies, strengthening relationships with community providers to provide options for consumers.
- Maintains work level within established productivity goals.
- Maintains positive community contacts.
- Participates in, and may serve as facilitator for, the treatment planning process, offering ideas for recovery-oriented goals and encouraging healthy decision making relative to their psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery goals.
- Completes required paperwork in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Good working knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical assessment and DSM 5/ICD 10 criteria.
- Good working knowledge of community resources, and specifically substance use disorder resources.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
- Demonstrates flexibility in the selection of interventions for each consumer.
- Establishes therapeutic alliance with consumers.
- Demonstrates an understanding of severe mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders and applies this to everyday work.
- Works well with colleagues, both intra- and interagency.
- Good working knowledge of the principles and practices of medical record documentation and medical records management.
- Shows willingness to learn and use new skills and take regular advantage of internal and external training and staff development opportunities and resources.
- Computer literacy and working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and other necessary software programs.
- Good working knowledge of recovery principles and willingness to share personal journey of recovery with others.
- Good working knowledge of Evidence Based Practices related to target population.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations, including, but not limited to, visual and/or audiological appliances and devices to increase mobility.
- Must have sufficient visual acuity with or without corrective lenses to visually observe clients and detect signs of changes in consumer behavior, adverse medication reactions, or other activity or event requiring intervention.
- Must be able to bend, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to navigate stairs and ambulate across uneven pavement/surfaces.
- Must be able to work in a jail setting.

Position Overview
Under the supervision of a Mental Health Program Coordinator, responsible for a broad range of services for individuals with substance use disorders. Services are mobile and community-based, including conducting assessments and providing recovery coaching for consumers. Implements treatment plans to assist consumers in attaining recovery goals and maximizing independence and community inclusion.This is a full-time benefited position working out of the Community Mental Health Campus in Holland, MI.
The essential job functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:High school diploma or GED. Associates degree preferred. Lived experience with and sustained recovery (minimum 2 years) from substance use disorder required.
Must possess a valid Michigan Driver’s License.
Michigan Certification as Recovery Coach (CCAR trained) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Certified Peer Recovery Coach, or have the ability to be trained and certified.
