- Designs, coordinates, and manages graphical, written and video content for all of platforms including social media, websites, electronic newsletters, product design, displays, and other marketing collateral.
- Develops and executes social media campaigns for various platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and X.
- Generates, edits, publishes and shares daily content (original text, images, video or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action.
- Takes creative critiques from internal customers to adjust graphic design based on these critiques and adheres to department brand guidelines.
- Prepares print products such as flyers, pamphlets, booklets and mailers.
- Interacts with other team members to identify content to communicate to the public.
- Gathers all relevant facts for each project and ensures that all deliverables communicate the correct information.
- Generates clear ideas, concepts, and designs of creative assets from beginning to end.
- Monitors customer engagement and interacts with customers on social media posts.
- Moderates user-generated content for appropriateness.
- Measures the success of campaigns using key performance indicators, communicates analysis with team members, and takes action to improve future campaigns.
- Assists in responding to media inquiries.
- Assists in implementing advertising and marketing strategies, including those focused on the National Recreation and Parks Association’s three pillars of health and wellness, equity, and conservation.
- Maintains and updates information and initiatives in the Department’s section of County website.
- Prepares and makes presentations to staff and community groups as needed.
- Responds to inquiries by social media, phone, and e-mail.
- Participates in fairs, festivals, and other public events to promote department initiatives.
- Utilizes the National Recreation and Parks Association’s Equity Language Guide in written materials, as appropriate.
- Manages additional projects.
- Takes photographs and video for use in marketing collateral, which requires traveling to department sites.
- Uses graphic design software, video editing software, and Microsoft 365.
- May supervise interns.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Knowledge and proficiency using graphic design software.
- Knowledge of the public information and public relations needs of the department.
- Knowledge of effective methods of obtaining adequate publicity for programs and activities of the department.
- Knowledge of videography, photography, and editing techniques.
- Knowledge of County and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing performance of duties.
- Skill in verbal and written communication.
- Skill in public speaking.
- Skill in graphic design.
- Skill in researching and organizing data.
- Skill in writing original copy and assembling, editing, and rewriting other copy.
- Skill in preparing copy for publication.
- Ability to create and design various materials for print and web use, including illustrations, logos, layouts and photos.
- Ability to complete projects with high quality and on schedule.
- Ability to comprehend and develop social media marketing campaigns.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to meet deadlines.

Under general supervision by the Public Information Officer, the Marketing Specialist is responsible for creating marketing collateral that maintains and promotes the mission and vision of the Recreation and Parks Department.
Essential Job Duties
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in journalism, English, mass communications, or a closely related field,Plus
One-year of experience in journalism, creative writing, public relations, or closely related work.
Additional experience in the areas listed above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years for the required education.
Education in one of the fields listed above beyond a bachelor's degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Entry Level)
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
