      Return to sport following injury is a complex. The Rehabilitation Performance Coach will play a vital role in the academy physical performance department working in collaboration with the multidisciplinary support team to help provide an ‘optimal’ pathway back to team training/competition for injured academy players.

      The Rehabilitation Performance Coach will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of individualised on- and off-pitch physical preparation in the presence of injury to ensure successful return to sport and subsequent return to performance.

      Your Impact

      1. Ensuring return to sport is successful without the player suffering an immediate set back while continuing to provide support (training/monitoring) during the players return to performance.
      2. Following injury to collaborate with the physiotherapy/medical team to devise a return to sport plan that is adaptable to player healing, their response to progressive on- and off-pitch physical preparation and contextual considerations.
      3. To lead on designing and delivering individualised off-pitch physical preparation considering the type/severity of injury, the training age/status of the player and their individual development plan.
      4. To lead on designing and delivering individualised on-pitch rehabilitation which allows the athlete to develop physically, technically, tactically, and mentally to return to training/competition.
      5. Ensuring players achieve the required outcomes (quantitative and qualitative information) to return to sport which is relevant to their injury and level of competition.
      6. Monitoring and analysing player external and internal ‘loads’, subjective response and strength and power ‘diagnostics’ throughout the return to sport continuum and distributing information with relevant stakeholders.
      7. Document players return to sport/return to performance following injury to help refine and review the academies rehabilitation support to players following injury.
      8. Provide support for Professional Development Phase staff in delivering strength & conditioning and training/match day warmups when required.

      What we are looking for

      Essential

      · Depth of experience in professional sport delivering rehabilitation support to injured players.

      · Demonstrate excellent physiological and biomechanical knowledge to ensure progressions/regressions of on- and off pitch physical preparation are to the highest level

      · Experience in designing and delivering on- and off-pitch physical preparation of injured players to support successful return to sport.

      · Demonstrate strong experience of utilising sports technology and how this links to the physiology of rehabilitation/football performance.

      · Ability to effectively communicate with staff within the MDT and to utilise staff members strengths and experiences during the return to sport pathway.

      · Be able to work to tight deadlines & be flexible in the expected working pattern.

      · Have the ability to work in a fast-moving environment.

      · Develop networks, create, and maintain effective working relationships.

      Education & Formal Qualifications:

      · First Aid

      · An undergraduate qualification (BSc) in Strength and Conditioning or Sport Science

      · Evidence of working towards UKSCA, CSCS/RSCC or ASCA accreditation and/or BASES accreditation

      Desirable

      · Excellent understanding of injury classification and anatomy.

      · Ensure data collection is maintained to the highest standard and is utilised in a rationale manner to inform decision-making.

      · Excellent understanding of team training methodology and the demands placed on players on positional level in relation to the game model.

      · Demonstrate ability to support players following a return to full team training/competition.

      Education & Formal Qualifications:

      · UKSCA, CSCS/RSCC or ASCA accreditation

      · BASES accreditation

      · A post-graduate qualification (MSc/MRes) in Strength and Conditioning or Sport Science. Degree programmes must have included aspects related to physical preparation for sporting performance (e.g., physiology, kinesiology, anatomy, biomechanics, and nutrition).
