- Lead and develop a multi-level accounting team responsible for complex revenue and contract-related activities, including managing both full‑time staff and contingent workers.
- Own and refine end‑to‑end accounting processes related to revenue recognition, contract settlements, estimates, and period-close activities.
- Build and maintain detailed process documentation to ensure consistent execution and strong internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, automate recurring tasks, and improve data accuracy across reporting cycles.
- Oversee the reconciliation of data from multiple operational systems into the company’s general ledger.
- Use advanced Excel capabilities and large datasets to improve analysis, trend identification, and financial insights.
- Support the rollout of new financial tools or platforms and drive associated process transitions.
- Royalty and subrights accounting expertise.
- Experience with SAP and general ledger systems.
- 4+ years of experience managing direct reports.
- 10+ years of experience in rights and royalty accounting.
- Proficiency in advanced Excel functions, including macros, V/X Lookups, and analysis.
- Strong leadership skills and experience in team management.
- Solid understanding of internal controls and compliance requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA certification is preferred.
- Experience in the publishing industry.
- Direct experience with rights and royalty accounting.

Job Description
As the Director of Accounting for Royalty and Subrights, you will lead a dynamic and multi-level accounting team. You will focus on overseeing complex revenue and contract-related accounting activities while driving process improvement and ensuring data accuracy. Your role will be pivotal in managing systems, data, and technology collaborations, as well as supporting cross-functional reporting and financial tool rollouts.

This is a 100% remote position where you will work with a team comprising two accounting managers (one for subrights and one for royalty), five full-time employees, and four or more contractors. Enjoy the flexibility of remote work while engaging in exciting transformation projects and ERP rollouts, with the added benefit of an annual bonus.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of New York, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $150000.00/yr.
