Job Summary:
The Dr. Johnson Laboratory, in the Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of British Columbia will be looking to hire a Research Assistant/Technician 2 to join the team.
Organizational Status :
The Research Assistant will report directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr . James Johnson.
Work Performed:
The laboratory has numerous projects focused on diabetes, pancreatic cancer and heart disease. The responsibilities of this position involve assis iting in experiments and research activities, includ ing performing genotyping, tissue sectioning, microscopy, assays, and islet picking. Attendance at Lab meetings is also required , and the position may also involve the performance of other tasks aligned with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification. Animal care training may be provided.
Consequence of Error/Judgement :
Works within well defined guidelines and procedures, but exercises judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion; new or unusual problems are referred to supervisor.Supervision Received :
Works under general supervision in carrying out familiar phases of duties and responsibilities; receives instructions during orientation and on subsequent new assignments or changes in procedures.Supervision Given:
May distribute work assignments to employees at lower classification levels and initiate new employees into routines, procedures and operation of equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications :
Undergraduate degree in a related discipline preferred.
