What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Calibrate and reduce JWST MIRI MRS data toward the inner Galaxy
- Investigate background models to accurately measure the spectral line properties of Ne, Ar, and S ions
- Develop Cloudy simulations, constrained by JWST and GBT data, to explore the physics of the Warm Ionized Medium
- Collaborate with team members in a mission-driven, office-based research environment
- Participate in conferences and workshops to exchange ideas and expertise
What is Required (Qualifications):
- PhD in astronomy, physics, or a related field, or expected to earn a PhD by the starting date of the appointment
- Previous experience with JWST data and/or infrared spectroscopy
- Attention to detail and highly organized
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with infrared spectroscopy
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Knowledge or experience with the spectral synthesis code Cloudy
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
