      Research Engineer – Power Systems

      The Opportunity


      EDF R&D is a core part of the EDF Group and is advancing research in the fields of Nuclear (Modelling and Simulation; Natural Hazards and Environment; Waste and Decommissioning), Offshore Wind, Energy Systems, Zero Emissions Mobility and Smart Digital Technologies.


      We are looking for a talented Research Engineer to join the Zero Carbon Systems team responsible for leading and contributing to a variety of research projects related to Power Systems Optimisation, Economic Assessment and Business Model Development, Energy Storage Solutions, Low Carbon Generation and many others.

      What you’ll be doing


      As a Research Engineer, you will work collaboratively with other colleagues within the Zero Carbon Systems team and the wider EDF R&D UK Centre to support the development and delivery of research projects for the benefit of EDF Energy, the UK Energy Sector and EDF Group.


      You will be responsible for delivering high quality analytical modelling of power systems operation, sourcing data and information for the use in research projects and maintaining and developing Python based optimisation models.


      You will successfully apply/bid for financial support for research projects as well as UK/EU funding, develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders and collaborate with relevant universities and industrial partners.


      Who you are


      We are looking for somebody with experience in coding in Python, data gathering and analysis, developing and maintaining optimisation models and overall understanding of power system economics.


      You will have knowledge of innovative energy technologies and systems, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to think strategically whilst working on a variety of projects amongst a highly skilled team of research engineers. Collaboration and stakeholder relationships are a key focus for this role and therefore, we are looking for somebody with excellent communications skills and the ability to build and develop effective relationships both internally and externally.
