      GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

      The self-motivated applicant will work in the Raychaudhuri Lab within the Department of Medicine, Division of Genetics. This group studies the basis of autoimmune disease using techniques in human genetics, bioinformatics, and systems biology. This position will focus on identifying regulatory genetic elements in CD4 T cells using CRISPR-Cas9 technologies.

      Working under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator and Research Manager, and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, the qualified applicant will conduct basic immunological and molecular biology techniques including sterile cell culture, viral infection, and RNA/DNA extraction. Experience in PCR, CRISPR, cloning, and maintenance of cell lines is not required but desirable. Data will be analyzed using GraphPad Prism, R, and Flowjo. The ideal candidate will have experience in sterile cell culture techniques, basic cellular immunology techniques and concepts, and a strong interest in developing a career in medical sciences. The position offers a unique opportunity to expand research methodologies within the rich scientific community of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and the Broad Institute.

      PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      1. Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine tests following established methodologies. Routine tests may include isolation of running flow cytometry on isolated samples and RNA/DNA isolation.

      2. Prepares and maintains tissue cultures.

      3. Record data, summarizes, and analyzes results using basic statistics.

      4. Prepares laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments, and equipment.

      5. Maintains supplies inventory in accordance with departmental procedures.

      6. Discusses progress of work regularly with supervisor.

      7. Assists in obtaining approval for protocols by:

      § organizing required documents

      § drafting applications to obtain required samples for projects.

      8. All other duties, as assigned.

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      · B.S. in a biological/physical science required.

      · We welcome recent graduates with relevant course or project works.

      SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

      · Good organizational skills, detail oriented.

      · Ability to efficiently present and disseminate scientific material

      · Sound degree of computer literacy.

      · Ability to methodically record data and to analyze data using basic statistics.

      · Ability to perform a variety of routine tests and prioritize work.

      · Good interpersonal and excellent communication skills.

      · Ability to demonstrate professionalism.

      WORKING CONDITIONS:

      · Laboratory setting

      · Exposure to potentially hazardous substances requiring the usage of Personal Protective Equipment
