      ASSISTANT PARK MANAGER (37020702) RESIDENCY REQUIRED

      LAFAYETTE BLUE SPRINGS STATE PARK

      The incumbent for this position will provide oversight of operations including volunteers, park projects and budget tracking for Lafayette Blue Springs State Parks unit which includes Forest Capital Museum State Park, Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State Park, Troy Springs State Park, and Suwannee River Wilderness State Trail. The incumbent will work to ensure all parks are compliant with current FPS standards and being safely operated for staff and visitors. This position will work with the Park Manager to lead, assist, oversee, and mentor the staff. This position directly supervises 2 Parks Services Specialist, 1 Park Ranger and 4-5 OPS employees. Required to live onsite in a 3BR/2 Bath house.

      Take a dip in the first-magnitude spring, walk the natural limestone bridge that crosses the spring run, or picnic under the shade of the oak trees with their swaying Spanish moss. Fish or canoe on the Suwannee River or stay in one of the park's rental vacation cabins, which stand on stilts high above the riverbank. Bicycling, hiking and wildlife viewing are favorite pastimes for visitors.

      The picnic area has tables, grills and two pavilions, which are popular for family reunions and parties.

      A tent-only campground is available for park visitors and as a river camp for paddlers along the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail. A primitive youth camping area is also available.

      Your Specific Responsibilities:

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply. In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department’s Standards of Conduct, as well as any and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position. If position is supervisory, incumbent is expected to actively support and work toward fulfilling the Agency’s Affirmative Action objectives.

      Under the direction of the park manager, directly supervises the park staff in the management of the resources, facilities and public use of Lafayette Blue Springs State Park, Forest Capital Museum State Park, Peacock Springs State Park, Troy Spring State Park, and The Suwannee River Wilderness Trail.

      Participates in employee training, supervision and discipline. Supervises the staff in fiscal, purchasing, and property procedures and policies. Participates in the administration of the collective bargaining agreement and maintains good employee relations. Coordinates work schedules, assignments, and follow up. Checks reports, fee collection, and miscellaneous records prepared by the staff.

      Coordinates interpretive programs, activities, and schedules. Meets the public, interprets the resources, facilities, and services, resolves problems, and provides for good public relations. Supervises the staff in providing visitor services.

      Participates in the supervision of the resource management program including ecological burning, water level and spring management, native species propagation, erosion control, and exotic removal.

      Identifies maintenance needs through daily inspections. Maintains maintenance schedules and supervises the staff to assure maintenance on a daily, weekly and yearly basis is regularly performed. Supervises and assists with the maintenance of buildings, roads, bridges, trails, water systems, wastewater systems, vehicles, equipment, etc. Operates various vehicle and equipment, up to and including brush trucks and tractors, to assess maintenance needs and oversee and assist in performing needed maintenance.

      Assists with park budgets and budget management.

      Knowledge and skill in operating park ranger station, fee collection, and central reservation program.

      Prepares and implements the Park Protection Plan in accordance with Operations Policy Manual. Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical, and archaeological facilities and resources, and use thereof, for the enjoyment of the visitor. The duties of this position require the incumbent to reside on the property.

      Performs other related duties as required.
