Job Description

- Interacts with members to cooperatively provide safety and loss control services in a geographically assigned area
- Prepares for member interactions to ensure understanding of potential exposures and hazards impacting member operations
- Participates in Loss Prevention Department activities to develop strategies for increasing the effectiveness of safety and loss control services
- Analyzes available data in preparation for member interactions and devises the best means of sharing relevant information
- Coordinates and schedules training programs to address exposures related to member operations
- Prepares correspondence related to member interactions
- Develops and provides training for members to address exposures
- Gathers information for property valuations as needed
- Contributes articles for newsletters and other resources
- Attends continuing education and training to stay current with industry standards and best practices
- Knowledge of potential risks and exposures associated with local government operations
- Ability to interact with members in a cooperative effort to identify and implement effective solutions
- Skill in conducting on-site risk exposure assessments
- Ability to speak and write effectively to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, public officials, agencies/organizations, and Risk Pool members
- Knowledge of risk management and insurance principles
- Capacity to think critically and make informed decisions, along with the ability to influence change
- Understanding of safety principles, best practices, rules, and regulations associated with local government operations
- Skill in the preparation of written correspondence and reports
- Excellent computer and technology skills, including office and media applications
- A bachelor’s degree in risk management, occupational safety and health, or a closely related field is preferred
- Experience sufficient to understand the principles relevant to major duties is required
- Two to three years of experience in a position with similar duties is required
- Valid Texas motor vehicle operator's license is required
- Possession of relevant designations or certifications is beneficial

The Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool is a public entity risk pool providing workers’ compensation, liability, and property coverages to more than 2,800 local government entities in Texas.
We are seeking a Safety and Loss Control Consultant to provide loss prevention-related services to Risk Pool members in a partnership setting. Services can range from interactive on-site safety/loss control visits to dynamic presentations.
Reporting to a Safety and Loss Control Supervisor, the Safety and Loss Control Consultant will provide services and resources to reduce the frequency, severity, and potential of losses associated with member operations and exposures.
Extensive in-state travel on behalf of the Pool is required.
