Schedule 3-10 hours to work on campus in the Makerspace.
Work consists of consulting with UVA students/faculty on a wide variety of projects, creating training videos, teaching workshops, creating workshop resources, recording workshops, working on a collaborative project with fellow Makerspace Technologists, and updating and maintaining documentation for Makerspace resources and practices.
Technologists teach at least two workshops each semester. The resources used at the workshop, the format of the workshop, and the date and time scheduled for the workshop are up to the Technologist in consultation with the Makerspace Manager.
Technologists are required to post at least two (2) blog posts each semester about the work they are doing in the Makerspace.
Social Media outlets
Technologists help spread the word and publicize the Makerspace by posting appropriate content on the Scholars’ Lab Makerspace social media accounts.
Collaborative Project.
Once a week, all Makerspace Technologists will meet to work on a collaborative project. Meetings will last 30-60 minutes and be in person and/or virtual. This will be a time to meet with all Technologists and the Makerspace Manager to review progress on the project, make plans for the coming days, assign tasks, and work through any issues.
The project is decided upon by the Technologists and the Makerspace Manager. The project should utilize the tools and equipment available in the Makespace and other spaces on Grounds and generate a useful product for the UVA community.
Catalog tools in other UVA making spaces
Work with managers to catalog all of the tools and equipment in their space.
Make 360 photos and video tours of the space.
Every human is a dreamer, creator and achiever. The Scholars’ Lab Makerspace provides the place, tools and support for people to dream, create and achieve. Makerspace Technologists provide that vital support and maintain the tools and space.
As a Technologist, you will consult with UVA students and faculty on a wide variety of projects in a wide array of technologies including electronics like Arduino and Raspberry Pi, sewing, button making, 3D modeling and 3D printing, and paper crafts including using a mini printing press and CNC paper cutter. No experience is necessary, and training is provided. Further responsibilities include creating training videos, teaching workshops, creating workshop resources, posting content to the Scholars’ Lab website and other social media outlets, working on a collaborative project with fellow Makerspace Technologists, and updating and maintaining documentation for Makerspace resources and practices.

Job purpose
This job provides a resource for students, faculty and staff to use the equipment and technologies in the Makerspace.
Responsibilities and Duties
Students will be expected to work 3-10 hrs/wk in the Makerspace in Shannon Library. The days and times are flexible and determined after consultation with the Makerspace Manager.
You are expected to be making something while at work. Working on personal or class projects that use the equipment in the Makerspace is great! Learning how to use the tools is an acceptable use of time. Doing homework in the Makespace during your shift time is not appropriate.
This is primarily a sedentary job involving use of desktop computers and hand tools and other equipment used at a table. The job does occasionally require periods of standing for an hour or more while instructing others and teaching workshops.
Qualifications
No experience is necessary, and training is provided.
Successful applicants for this position will have a desire to learn about making technologies, will have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, ability to balance working independently with asking for guidance when needed, a desire to teach others in a workshop setting, and will be committed to arriving at work on time.
This position requires a responsible, self-motivated, and detail-oriented employee who enjoys research, problem solving, technology and teaching workshops.
This position is open to Federal Work Study eligible students.

Compensation rate: $16.71/hour
