The Lutheran Center (national office) is located in Chicago, Illinois. A staff of approximately 400, under the leadership of the Presiding Bishop, serve as administrators, advisors, conveners, partners, and resource people for the ELCA and its ministries. Staff lead the work of national, domestic, and global ministries and programs including Lutheran Disaster Response, ELCA World Hunger, Service & Justice, Christian Community and Leadership, and Innovation. We are also home to five of our separately incorporated ministries: The Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA, Women of the ELCA, Lutheran Men in Mission, the ELCA Foundation and the ELCA Federal Credit Union.

As the CWO becomes an agile organization, the need to adapt an agile approach to the delivery of products / solutions in the organization. Agile is a universal discipline that delivers consistent, predictable and repeatable outcomes and can be applied in many situations to meet stakeholder needs and expectations. Based on the changing environment and needs of the church, Scrum and other agile methodologies are crucial to their skillset. This position is responsible for the successful delivery of defined product deliverables and coordination of projects for the ELCA through the management of resources, quality and timeline; and the analysis, organization and performance of system/software/hardware/process implementation tasks associated with all aspects of the project life cycle and/or scrum artifacts and events.
This is a full time, exempt, remote position.
The eligibility of a candidate for remote or hybrid positions may depend on the residency of the candidate, and the budget for the role, including salary or pay, insurance coverage, and/or tax burden. Candidates for this position must reside within the fifty United States or the District of Columbia and be authorized to work lawfully in the United States. Job Responsibilities
Evaluate product and project goals, objectives and scope for feasibility that impact the greater organization as a whole while communicating with cross-unit team members and related groups to ensure deliverables are implemented.
Coordinates and directs the product related work of ELCA team members according to set forth ELCA methodologies. Collaborates and meets designated staff/teams on a regular basis on ELCA business standards and best practices for product solutions. Effectively communicates with project managers, business owners and key stakeholders on progress, risks and issue resolution. Ensures project phases and artifacts are signed off.
Serve as Scrum Master on products as appointed.
• Arrange product backlog for maximum value
• Ensure goals, scope, and product domain are understood by everyone on the Scrum Team to aid created of high value products
• Communicate regularly with IT Leadership and/or business stakeholders to identify success and recognize blockers to escalate success issues
• Coach and Remove impediments to Development Team progress
• Facilitate Scrum events
Manage end to end project tasks • Use tools such as business cases, project plans, burndown charts, Ishikawa Diagrams to provide predictable results and visibility to stakeholders.
• Recognize and identify methods (agile, waterfall, other) to ensure team success.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time and budget as expected.
• Use leadership skills to conduct meetings with ELCA stakeholders and tools to document the project management plan.
Serve Scrum Master services to the organization.
• Leading and coaching the organization in its Scrum adoption;
• Planning Scrum implementations within the organization;
• Helping employees and stakeholders understand and enact Scrum and empirical product development;
• Causing change that increases the productivity of the Scrum Team; and,
• Working with other Scrum Masters to increase the effectiveness of the application of Scrum in the organization
Defines and executes the approach necessary to ensure that a high quality of interaction and information is delivered from the appropriate system including all levels of analysis, testing, queries, reports, entry protocol, operational procedures and additional functionality.
Requirements
1. Proven ability, vision, and communication skills to work across ELCA teams to help meet specific project and strategic goals and objectives even if they evolve rapidly and change over time.
2. Proven organizational skills, leadership and management for IT and organization stakeholders. Understands the best mediums to use for the most effective communication.
3. Great attention to detail including updates to plans and status reports delivered to sponsors on a regular basis.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to develop project charters, business cases, risks and issues logs, presentations, conduct multifaceted meetings as well as manage other documentation. Ability to articulate complex technical issues into commonplace language to a diverse audience.
5. Excellent change management skills in identifying metrics for measuring product usage and continuous improvement.
6. Ability to prioritize work tasks for self and others.
7. Procurement and budget management.
8. PMP Certification preferred
9. Certified Scrum Master Certification
10. 3+ years as project management or scrum master professional
Physical
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. This position requires sitting for long periods of time. May be required to lift boxes of materials. Travel
Position requires minimal travel for in-person staff events. Valid driver's license preferred.
