      The Seasonal Chef Instructor, Pastry contributes to the success of a Sur La Table store by inspiring customers throughout their culinary journey. The role combines culinary talent and teaching skills to support the Resident Chef and drive business results. The instructor reports to the Resident Chef.

      Job Duties and Responsibilities

      • Model and direct employees to meet customer service standards.
      • Deliver exceptional cooking classes using provided recipes and plans.
      • Maintain product knowledge, access training, and seek additional resources as needed.
      • Ensure high standards of sanitation and cleanliness in all areas.
      • Cook and serve food at correct temperatures under sanitary conditions.
      • Work as part of a team to achieve sales goals, and strive for individual and class sales targets.
      • Communicate policies and SOPs effectively, ensuring compliance.
      • Provide coaching and performance feedback to Kitchen Assistants and communicate issues to the Resident Chef.
      • Identify opportunities to increase class and retail sales.
      • Accurately record work hours per company policy.
      • Proactively solve problems, follow up with the Resident Chef.
      • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills with staff, customers, and management.
      • May handle, serve, and pour alcohol, and prepare cocktails and drinks.
      • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Resident Chef.

      Essential Functions

      • Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others.
      • Remain stationary for up to 3 hours; move around to coach, direct, and sell.
      • Distinguish flavors and odors accurately.
      • Perform physical tasks such as reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, and kneeling.
      • Use hands skillfully for culinary techniques.
      • Work flexible hours to teach classes at various times.
      • Operate computers, POS systems, and scanners.
      • Maintain regular attendance.
      • Lift and move up to 35 lbs.
      • Work in conditions with open flames and variable kitchen temperatures.

      Experience and Qualifications

      • 1-2 years of kitchen operations experience.
      • Culinary degree in Pastry or equivalent experience.
      • Successful teaching and training experience.
      • Valid Food Handlers and/or Food Managers Certification.
      • Must be at least 21 years old.
      • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
      • Ability to drive sales and motivate teams.
      • Strong communication skills.

      Pay Range

      • $19.00 - $21.43 per hour
