- Support the development and implementation of our Group-wide human rights program
- Work on a range of exciting projects and initiatives globally
- Supporting sustainable value chain initiatives working with our Commercial team (procurement, sales and marketing, marine and logistics) and Project teams
- Support and advice on Rio Tinto’ salient human rights issues (i.e., related to inclusion and diversity, security and human rights, labour rights including modern slavery, community health and well-being, Indigenous Peoples rights, land access and use, among other topics)
- Project management support for major initiatives and annual human rights disclosure, including the modern slavery reporting process
- Responding to third-party due diligence requests (TPDDs) alongside our Ethics and Integrity team
- Responding to external requests (external benchmarks, surveys, questionnaires, investor requests)
- Reviewing contract clauses and working with our Legal teams
- Facilitating and delivering training for assets and functions, including awareness initiatives
- Developing human rights guidance, tools and templates, tracking trends and improvement opportunities
- Monitoring the implementation of human rights control library
- Supporting delivery of the Group-wide human rights training strategy, program and modules
- Measuring and monitoring key metrics and performance
- Participating in external forums and working groups
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

- Excellent communication and writing skills, comfortable with working in detail and managing datasets
- Ability to exercise sound judgment when dealing with internal and external stakeholders
- Agile thinker and ability to work on complex tasks that often have no clear answer
- Change management skills and experience will be highly desirable
- Ability to prioritize workload and effective time management skills, results oriented
- Team player who is action orientated and can deliver practical advice for practitioners.

About the role

Our Communities and Social Performance (CSP) Area of Expertise (AoE) is Rio Tinto’s Technical CSP function. It provides support to the business to build respectful and trusted relationships with host communities and deliver enduring social and economic outcomes. The CSP AoE works with CSP practitioners and leaders across the business to build capability, support human rights and social performance delivery, monitor and respond to emerging trends, and provide assurance and risk management. The CSP AoE also maintains Rio Tinto’s risk management systems, Human Rights Policy, CSP standard and reporting process.
We are looking for a Senior Advisor Human Rights and Value Chains to join an innovative and thoughtful human rights program and contribute to business outcomes and positive human rights impacts. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about responsible business and human rights, motivated to work on complex issues, and who seek exposure to Rio Tinto’s full range of assets and functions. The Senior Advisor will be supported by experienced Human Rights practitioners and be part of a collegial and pioneering team, focusing on human rights and value chains initiatives.

What you’ll bring
In-depth human rights knowledge and experience is preferred but not essential. We will consider applicants with a range of skillsets and professional qualifications (e.g., from legal, risk, business, social sciences or other related disciplines) who are looking to upskill their knowledge of human rights and sustainability more broadly. Some knowledge of commercial and value chains systems, risk management and assurance will be beneficial.
