      About Optimal

At Optimal, we’re redefining how product teams and UX researchers understand human behaviour.

Our platform transforms complex user data into clear, actionable insights - helping customers like Lego, Nike, Netflix, and Apple build digital experiences that truly connect.

Now, we’re evolving how we build too - by embracing AI-powered development to move faster and focus on what matters most: creating great user experiences.

      The role

We’re looking for a Full Stack Engineer to help shape the future of how we build at Optimal. You’ll work across our stack - using React, Ruby on Rails, and AWS - while integrating AI coding tools to speed up delivery and improve our developer experience.

This is a role for someone who loves impact, experimentation and innovation - blending your engineering skills with an early-adopter mindset around AI productivity.

You'll do well if you thrive in a fast moving environment and think like an entrepreneur - you see the big picture and drive outcomes.

      What you'll do:

      • Build impactful features across our platform
      • Work closely with Product and Design to solve real problems for our customers
      • Take ownership of projects from conception to completion
      • Collaborate and contribute to our product strategy and goals
      • Define and mentor the team on AI-assisted workflows and best practices

      What you’ll bring:

      • Proven experience delivering software end-to-end with our stack (React, Ruby on Rails, AWS)
      • Passion for solving customer problems through impactful solutions
      • Strong collaboration skills and sense of ownership
      • Experience with AI driven product development and coding
      • A leadership and entrepreneurial mindset, with curiosity for shaping AI-assisted workflows

      What’s in it for you:

      • Competitive salary + Employee Share Option Plan (ESOP)
      • Annual wellbeing allowance
      • Home office set-up support
      • An additional day off on your birthday
      • Enhanced parental leave for primary and secondary caregiver
      • The chance to shape our engineering culture and be part of a high performing team
      • Flexible work options (our HQ is based in Wellington, NZ, but this role can be based anywhere in New Zealand)

If you like to move fast and build great products, apply now.

  • About the company
