      Overview of the team and role:

      The Strategy and Corporate Development team is responsible for supporting the development and execution of GWL’s strategic agenda. From a strategy standpoint, this includes providing thought leadership to address critical business challenges and identify and assess future opportunities. From a corporate development standpoint, this includes supporting GWL and its operating businesses with assessing and executing acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic partnerships that drive shareholder value.

      Reporting to Vice President, Strategy and Corporate Development, the Senior Analyst is responsible for conducting analysis, making recommendations, and executing on internal directives to drive forward these crucial business strategy and M&A projects.

      Responsibilities:

      • Assist in the development and evaluation of strategic plans and projects for GWL and its operating businesses, including analysis, research, and preparation of presentations
      • Analyze and synthesize data and information from various internal and external sources, including financial statements, to reach conclusions about the attractiveness of various opportunities for our businesses
      • Support assessment of M&A transactions including research, diligence and financial analysis
      • Develop business cases and robust financial models, including acquisition and valuation models
      • Interact effectively with internal team members, leaders from the operating businesses and external advisors and consultants such as bankers, lawyers and accountants

      Qualifications:

      • Bachelor of Commerce/Business Administration (or a similar degree, e.g. Economics)
      • 2-3 years of relevant work experience and demonstrated track record of success in any of the following sectors: private equity, advisory services within an accounting firm or an investment bank, management consulting, corporate development, or corporate strategy
      • Strong financial acumen and business judgment, with good command of financial statements and other data sources for investment decision-making
      • Analytical mindset and strong critical thinking skills – with a demonstrated ability to tackle complex projects and solve ambiguous or unstructured problems
      • Demonstrated ability to ramp up quickly on new topics, and synthesize input from a variety of sources to provide clarity and recommendations for the business
      • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with peers and team leadership to uncover insight and influence stakeholders
      • Exceptional communication skills, both written (e.g. building presentations for senior executives using PowerPoint, writing memos in Word) and verbal
      • A high level of proficiency with Excel modeling – with deep financial modeling and valuation experience considered an asset
      • Demonstrated experience juggling multiple projects and priorities at the same time
      • Completion of, or progress towards professional designations/degrees (e.g. CFA, CA, CBV, MBA) considered an asset
      • Experience in any of the following sectors is a plus: retail, health care, financial services or real estate
