      Description

Work for an organisation steeped in history with a front row seat for the digitalisation of the financial sector, and the rise of FinTec. A core organisational strength, with our people at our centre, Technology enables the Bank of England to deliver its mission by providing a diverse set of technical solutions and platforms. You will be supporting critical systems which underpin the UK economy and be part of a team that’s constantly evolving, just like our industry.

We take pride in our people, with backgrounds and experiences as diverse as the solutions they provide. You’ll enjoy flexible working opportunities, a strong sense of community and well-being, and a collective mission to promote the good of the people of the UK. All of which add up to make the Bank a hugely rewarding place to work.

      About you

You are going to be in the early years of your career with a hunger to learn, the willingness to grow and the ambition to make both happen. You are looking for a new challenge to grow your career, ideally with a company steeped in history that knows how to look after it’s employees. You really want to multiskill but thus far have not been given that opportunity. You are a team player but can also work independently on tasks and have great time management skills. You are excited to stay on top of industry directions to keep your skills and knowledge current.

      Your Skills

You have deployed Windows Servers and managed Active Directory for a medium to large organisation. You would have worked on systems virtualised using VMware vSphere and vCenter. Ideally you have deployed or been the administrator for a medium scale VMware Horizon Desktop deployment.

You love dabbling in scripts and automation to make your life easier. You just can’t understand why none of the systems you work on haven’t been automated yet. All these manual processes drive you crazy.

Perhaps you have even worked on the physical installation and maintenance of Server hardware, ideally Cisco UCS.

      Your Character

You are an information sponge who takes every opportunity to grow your skills. You are a social person who loves to share their knowledge and grow other people on your team but are human and humble enough to know when it’s time to listen to other views. You love the idea of pairing to share knowledge and work collaboratively with your colleagues. You work well under pressure and can work flexibly to meet the needs of the Critical environment you are supporting.

You will have no impediments that would prevent you from achieving UK Security Clearance.

      About the Role

This role is in the Critical National Infrastructure space of the Bank. The CNI Infrastructure team is made up of around 20 Engineers responsible for service across multiple disciplines. You will be embedded in the Compute sub-team who are responsible for maintaining the Server and Storage Hardware, Virtualization Platform, Virtual Desktop environment and the Windows Server deployments.

You will not be confined to this sub team and will be encouraged to multiskill across the different disciplines within the infrastructure team.

In this space you would be responsible, along with your colleagues, to ensure the necessary tasks are undertaken to both support service and enhance the future operating model of these systems and services.

The role will require you to participate in an out-of-hours support Rota of roughly 1 in 5 weeks and to have the flexibility to work out-of-hours as and when required.

The Bank allows flexible working and Work-from-Home. You will be expected to attend one of the Banks offices in either London or Leeds for a minimum of 40% of working hours over the period of a month. Ad-Hoc, flexible arrangements outside of these requirements may be accommodated, depending on circumstances.

Skills and abilities we would really like you to have:

      - You have an appreciation of business processes and why a machines can perform them better.

      - You understand what agile and scrum are.

      - You are familiar with Server Hardware, especially Cisco UCS and Pure Storage.

      - You can write a script in Python or Powershell

      - You know how to deploy and support Windows Servers 2016 to 2022.

      - You have worked with VMware vSphere and vCenter

      - You have experience in Microsoft Active Directory administration including managing Group Policy Objects.

Skills and abilities we really hope you have:

      - You have some scripts or automation you have written to show us

      - You have worked with Confluence and Jira

      - You have used Splunk for monitoring before

      - You have worked with server deployments using Cisco UCS

      - You have worked with Microsoft SCCM to manage Patch deployment

      - You have some experience with Cisco HyperFlex

      - You have worked with Commvault Backup software or similar

      - You have industry certifications from vendors like Cisco, Microsoft, VMware, RedHat, Pure etc

      The Process

Your first interview with us will be remote, we will be asking you about your skills and experience and trying to get to know you a little. This will also be an opportunity for you to ask us questions and decide if we are right for you. Should you be successful in this first interview and choose to progress to the next stage then you will be required to come to the Bank Office in Threadneedle Street in London where you will meet members of the team. You will undertake a technical test where you will be able to demonstrate the skills you have.

Should you be successful in this interview, and choose to continue, you would have a 3rd interview with Senior Managers. This would be remote via Teams and would be another opportunity for the extended management team to get to know you and gauge how you would fit into the Bank and the wider team. You will have further opportunities during this interview to ask questions to allow you to be certain that the Bank is the place for you.
