What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Conduct prospective and retrospective chart reviews to ensure coding accuracy and compliance
- Identify coding discrepancies and formulate suggestions for improvement
- Communicate audit results and findings to providers and ancillary staff
- Provide continuing education on coding standards and compliance regulations
- Collaborate with various departments to assist in accuracy of reported services and coding practices
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High school diploma or equivalent; seven years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education
- Minimum of 5 years of healthcare experience and 4 years of procedural and diagnostic coding
- Must have AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) certification or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS®) certification
- Proficiency in the correct application of CPT, CDT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes
- Strong attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Additional certifications or training in coding compliance
- Experience with government coding and billing guidelines
- Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and pharmacology
- Familiarity with SNOMED, SNODENT, and LOINC coding systems
- Proven ability to provide data and recommend process improvement practices
