      Position Highlights

      Location: This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement for Atlanta-based candidates. Up to 30% international travel required.

      Salary Range: $105,000-$130,000, plus benefits

      Position Type: Grant funded, limited-term opportunity contingent upon funding

      Overview:

      The CDC Foundation is seeking candidates for a Senior Epidemiologist position. This position will be an integral part of the Global Rotavirus Vaccine Impact and Effectiveness project team working on understanding oral rotavirus vaccine performance in high burden settings. This project focuses on conducting acute gastroenteritis surveillance and conducting evaluations to monitor the impact, effectiveness, and safety of rotavirus vaccines. The Senior Epidemiologist will coordinate efforts to strengthen and fill the gaps of the existing surveillance with a particular focus on ensuring the collection of high-quality vaccine data, working in collaboration with subject matter experts, governments, and other partners.


      This is a full-time, grant funded position with funding anticipated through June 30, 2027, with the possibility of extension depending on project needs and funding availability. The ability to work in French is required. The staff member will be hired and employed by the CDC Foundation and assigned to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Roybal Campus. The staff member will collaborate with the CDC rotavirus program. This is an outstanding opportunity to work with the nation’s leading agency charged with protecting the public's health.       Duties and Responsibilities:

      1. Serves as a recognized expert in acute gastroenteritis surveillance and evaluation to monitor the impact, effectiveness, and safety of rotavirus vaccines.

      2. Serve as a technical advisor (remote and onsite) to implement field activities and data collection.

      a. Support the design and implementation of epidemiologic studies.

      b. Provide training to implementing partners.

      c. Monitor progress of study activities (e.g. data collection and validation, enrollment, etc.) to ensure study objectives are met.

      d. Ensure the quality of field activities and data collection.

      3. Leads analysis of quantitative data and support dissemination of results.

      a. Prepare raw data for analysis by aggregating and cleaning program data from multiple data files and sources, as well as spotting and correcting inaccuracies in the underlying data.

      b. Conduct epidemiologic analyses to address project objectives.

      c. Support the development and writing of project reports and manuscripts for peer review.

      d. May attend professional meetings and conferences relative to the projects assigned to the incumbent.

      4. Participate in additional activities and other duties as assigned.


      Qualifications and Skills Necessary:

      · Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a background in epidemiology or closely related disciplines is required. A PhD, DSc, DrPH, or equivalent degree in a relevant area of public health is desired.

      · Ability to work in French is required (advanced language skills).

      · At least five years of demonstrated epidemiology skills and experience, including field epidemiology; surveillance; monitoring and evaluation; vaccine effectiveness evaluations; and public health program management and implementation.

      · Ability to perform qualitative data analyses using various tools.

      · Experience in the design and execution of epidemiologic research, including advanced statistical analysis and in publishing research results.

      · At least five years of public health experience in international, developing-country settings is highly desired.

      · At least five years of experience in collaborating with Ministries of Health and other international partners in Africa.

      · Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication (verbal and written) skills are required.

      · Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

      · Demonstrated effective diplomatic skills and the ability to work in close, supportive technical collaboration with individuals from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds as well as a range of public health partners and stakeholders, including international governmental and non-governmental organizations.

      · Proficient use of relevant computer programs (Microsoft suite, R or other statistical software, REDCap).

      · International travel will be required (up to 30% travel).
