- Work with communities, counties, and other agencies to facilitate hazard mitigation risk and vulnerability assessments
- Manage large data sets; maintain metadata and best practices to support systems and data
- Will work on multiple projects simultaneously, with a commitment to keeping projects on time and within budget
- Revise existing GIS layers and create new layers following established standards and procedures
- Correct geospatial location of features based on aerial photography or topography
- Manage task scope, budget, deliverables, and schedule to ensure client and project team satisfaction
- Advise, research, and analyze socio-economic, land use, demographic, environmental, climate data
- Assist in the writing, preparation, and technical review of planning documents, reports, presentations, visualizations
- Travel on occasion to NJ/PA/NY for client or public meetings. Remote potential for majority of the position.
- Passionate about climate resilience and hazard mitigation with the ability to work in a time-sensitive, fast-paced team environment.
- Bachelor or Master's degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Computer Science, Environmental Science or related field
- 3-5+ years of experience, at least two of which should include Hazard Mitigation Plan Development.
- High proficiency with ArcGIS, preferably experience with ArcPro.
- Experience with FEMA flood mapping data.
- Experience with risk and vulnerability assessments.
- Experience effectively working with or managing a team.
- Demonstrated experience managing tasks on time and on budget.
- Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to present verbally to high level stakeholders.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products.
- A master’s degree pertinent to emergency management, engineering, public administration, business administration, urban planning, or similar field.
- Certified Floodplain Manager Certification
- Experience with HAZUS
- Experience assisting subapplicants and/or applicants with Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC), Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA), Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), and Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM).
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
- Consulting experience in the public, private, or non-profit sector.

The Senior Hazard Mitigation Planner is a position in the Planning Practice at Michael Baker International. We are looking for an energetic, talented, and technically experienced GIS professional, who is eager to learn and be an integral member of our hazard mitigation and resilience planning team in New Jersey. This position will lead analysis for hazard mitigation plan updates, as well as conduct analysis for vulnerability assessments related to climate change and future conditions. The position requires strong technical skills, knowledge of hazard mitigation planning and climate change projections, and demonstrated experience in geospatial analysis. Our team supports Michael Baker’s planning, water, and environmental service practice areas.

COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $94,000 - $108,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
