DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: St. Charles Health System’s Lean Improvement Office (LIO) is a dynamic team of caregivers dedicated to helping others improve the care we deliver. Utilizing Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies and tools, the LIO team engages caregivers and providers in using scientific, evidence-based problem solving to find better ways to deliver a safe, quality, value-enhanced healthcare experience.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Senior Lean Improvement Facilitator at St. Charles Health System (SCHS) provides expertise to the SCHS leadership and multidisciplinary teams in continuous improvement, change management and lean leader behaviors using basic and advanced process improvement principles and thinking. This is an internal improvement advisor position that applies advanced continuous improvement (CI) tools and change leadership methodologies to drive strategic initiatives and improvement efforts that are critical to safe, timely, effective, equitable patient-centered care. The role supports the strategy deployment cycle through coaching and education of leaders on strategic A3 thinking and Daily Management System Model for aligning strategic objectives of the organization from executive through front-line strategy. Lean teaching, coaching and other support as needed is provided across hospitals, clinics, service lines and system support. This role will reflect the values of St. Charles: Accountability, Teamwork and Caring.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Utilizes advanced expertise in improvement methodologies to provide consulting, advisement, support, and direction to Senior Leaders, Executive Sponsors, Process Owners, Directors (or management) and Steering and front-line teams to appropriately use data-driven, scientific, problem-solving methodology to identify the correct design and approach for initiatives on continuous improvement, including Value Streams, Kaizen/Rapid Improvement Events, and managing for daily improvement.
Supports leadership teams in developing and deploying systems and structures to align and achieve results through all levels of St. Charles Health System.
Coordinates and oversees multiple improvement initiatives including the strategic level to ensure effective outcomes and consistent support by the LIO team.
Teaches, coaches, and advises Leaders, Caregivers and Providers on A3 thinking, PDSA, and lean tools and methodologies to effectively identify, address and eliminate process related obstacles and to drive process improvements across St. Charles Health System.
Is skilled at delivering effective feedback for behavior change and leadership coaching that reflects the values of St. Charles and evidence-based CI tools and techniques.
Models ideal behavior and coaches leaders at various levels within the organization on lean leadership skills required to lead in a participative, team-oriented culture. Models those skills in meetings, Gemba walks, and other interactions.
Creates and administers internal education on continuous improvement to all levels of the organization. Identifies areas in need of on-going training. Assists in the development of curriculum tools and supporting materials, including training to support St. Charles’ lean initiatives.
Partners with leadership in analysis of business processes across the organization, identifies gaps in the business process, determines impact to the organization, recommends and leads action plans and timelines to address issues.
Independently facilitates continuous improvement teams, follows up on action plans, and assists all assigned teams as needed to ensure improvements are made and sustained.
Builds relationships with leaders and stakeholders to manage effective processes and programs to improve the value of the patient care experience, reduce waste and ensure compliance according to established standards and measures.
Tracks all changes/improvements made. Monitors key metrics across assigned lean initiatives to review past, current, and future performance of processes. Provides Director of LIO and stakeholders clear measures and metrics.
Acts as a change agent in a fast paced and “ever changing” environment leveraging his/her strong interpersonal skills.
Supports the deployment of a focused daily management system throughout St. Charles to help leaders ensure the adoption and implementation of improvements into the daily operations and culture of the organization, preventing regression back to prior methods and beliefs.
Models behavior and coaches leaders on how to “go to the Gemba” and mentors them on how to conduct effective Gemba walks with caregivers. Teaches and defines the effective use of production control boards and visual management to the leadership teams. Gives feedback as leaders and caregivers learn new skills.
Provides timely, efficient, and accurate customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill.

EDUCATION:
Required : Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, nursing, engineering or other related field.
Preferred : BSN or MSN, clinical experience in a hospital setting.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Required : Lean Certification or equivalent or five (5) years Lean experience leading complex change initiatives. Ability to meet St. Charles’ driving requirements. Ability to travel to all St. Charles worksites.
Preferred : Lean Certification or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
Required : Three (3) or more years of experience coaching leaders in continuous improvement methodology.
Advanced knowledge and experience practicing advanced Lean Concepts and/or continuous improvement methodologies. Demonstrated experience leading complex change initiatives. Expertise in leading management and multi-disciplinary teams in the achievement of organizational goals. Demonstrated experience implementing improvement systems to support achieving organizational objectives. Proven ability presenting information and responding to questions from all levels throughout an organization.
Preferred : Five (5) or more years of experience coaching leaders in continuous improvement methodology.

Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel OneNote, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Access), database management, and document preparation. Experience using Excel, manipulating data sets, creating pivot tables and other visual forms of data analysis.
