- Understanding legal requirements around data subject requests in order to translate them into code and systems
- Developing and maintaining privacy tooling and systems at scale that prioritize privacy by design and data protection.
- Pairing with other developers, and providing feedback in pull requests
- Conducting investigations and resolving errors and bugs that pose risks to the privacy of personal data
- Working closely with stakeholders from various teams to ensure alignment on technical implementations that prioritize privacy
- Staying updated on privacy regulations, industry standards, and emerging technologies to continuously improve privacy practices
- A developer generalist who is comfortable with multiple languages at different levels. Ruby is our primary language, but we also write Javascript, Rust, and C.
- Someone with hands-on development with Ruby on Rails or any web framework
- Someone who has experience working in the world of Privacy engineering
- Comfortable with working anywhere in the stack (from right beside the OS all the way to the frontend)
- Able to identify problems and fix them at the appropriate place in the stack, including upstream open-source
- Keenly aware and empathetic of the developer experience, and motivated to help define improvements in our frameworks
- Experienced or interested in identifying and fixing performance bottlenecks
- Prior knowledge or experience in privacy
- IAPP certifications such as CIPT
- A high level of front end development skills (the team currently is primarily back end)

Job Description
The Data Subject Request Technologies (DSRT) team is responsible for developing and maintaining systems that enable the efficient and effective processing of Data Subject Requests, a key component of privacy compliance.
Joining an established team, this role will be responsible for designing and building systems and solutions in coordination with technical and legal stakeholders to ensure Shopify is compliant with privacy regulations.
