Well operation and production optimization of SAGD well pairs, including some of the most productive and lowest SOR wells in onshore Canada on a growing asset:
Use industry leading technology to optimize producer and injector performance based on live data
Pump system and completion selection and design for existing and new wells
Collaborate with Completions/Well Servicing, Operations, Process Engineering to identify and execute on value-add opportunities
Collaborate with other subsurface professionals from Reservoir Engineering and Geology on optimizing pad performance and recovery through operating strategy, pad redevelopment and redrills
Demonstrate and expand on valuable technical experience through project work & SME opportunities, including:
ESP Reliability Improvement – Monitor and advocate for design improvements
Lead ESP Dismantle, Inspection and Failure Analysis (DIFA) process and apply a consistent approach for failure root cause identification and mitigations across all thermal assets and vendors. Prioritize equipment component analysis, runtime cutoffs etc.
Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) SME accountability – sizing, troubleshooting, ESP matching etc.
Progress the development of Artificial Lift Tracking Software (ALTS)
Support early identification of well failures through ESP monitoring and analysis
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Licensed Professional Technologist/ Engineer (or EIT) registered with APEGA
A minimum of 8 years of Engineering/Technology experience in the Oil & Gas Industry is required
Experience specific to Production Engineering/Technology responsibilities would be preferred
Consideration will be given to keen individuals with less than 8 years’ experience but have demonstrated ability to learn quickly, balance their priorities and being a creative problem solver
Specific responsibilities will be paired to the successful candidate’s qualifications
Working knowledge of thermal ESP systems would be considered an asset
Tangible experience in data analysis and visualization would be considered an asset
Working knowledge of SAGD Reservoir operations, completions designs and/or facilities processes would be considered an asset
Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts quickly and apply past experiences to current role
Ability to interact and work closely in a multi-disciplinary team is required
A proven self-starter who is adaptable and takes on ambiguous problems with a pragmatic approach
Able to independently handle a broad range of activities with shifting priorities while delivering on all core responsibilities
Builds/maintains trust and credibility with stakeholders outside of the Production Engineering discipline and peers by demonstrating effective communication and knowledge of a variety of disciplines
Delivers results through analysis, creative thinking, and curiosity
Comfortable applying sound judgement and technically accurate recommendations with sometimes ambiguous information
Communicates respectfully, clearly, concisely, and confidently to support ideas, gain collaboration and acceptance of ideas or proposed actions
Willing to take feedback from peers and collaborators into consideration before implementing change
Challenges the status quo while seeking to understand current “Best Practices” and processes

Cenovus is currently looking for a Senior Production Engineering Technologist, Thermal or Senior Production Engineer, Thermal to join our team in Calgary!
Working with the Senior Manager, Christina Lake & Sunrise, the Senior Production Engineering Technologist, Thermal or Senior Production Engineer, Thermal will work within their own and multi-disciplinary teams to optimize their pads and bring forward opportunities to increase production, reserve recoveries, and lower costs.
In addition to day-to-day responsibilities, the successful candidate will be assigned ESP reliability project work where they are the production engineering point-of-contact or SME within the team. Within these additional responsibilities, they are expected to identify and pursue gaps and value-add opportunities as well as deliver on strategic projects and initiatives that support the broader Production Engineering team.
