      NRDC is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization.       NRDC is seeking a High Seas Conservation Senior Project Associate to work with the Oceans team in our New York office or Washington D.C. office.

      Position Summary

      The Senior Project Associate will work with a dynamic and growing team focused on securing rapid ratification and effective implementation of the new international treaty for the conservation and management of the ocean, known as the “high seas treaty.” The Senior Project Associate will also drive project and task management for priority initiatives, including developing and executing on project plans and timelines, creating content and materials, and coordinating internal and external communications.

      Under the guidance of the Director, Marine Protected Areas and NRDC international oceans staff:

      • Preparing complex events such as workshops, conferences, symposia and other convenings in multiple countries and continents which involve a diversity of government, NGO, and funder participants, in support of ratification and implementation of the high seas treaty.
      • Contributing to advocacy initiatives to advance the establishment of the first high seas marine protected areas and to strengthen management of human activities in the high seas outside protected areas.
      • Developing resources such as presentations, issue papers, factsheets, correspondence.
      • Developing contracts, financial reports and budget documents for the high seas treaty initiative.
      • Developing communication materials, social media and facilitate media communication activities in coordination with NRDC communications staff and outside partners.
      • Managing project lifecycle of the high seas treaty initiative including status updates, timelines, logistics and resources.
      • Communicating with internal and external partners regarding the high seas treaty initiative.

      Qualifications

      Education & Experience

      • Bachelor's degree in related field
      • 3-5 years of directly related experience; experience in conservation and/or project management a plus

      Skills, Abilities, Competencies

      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in Spanish or other related languages preferred.
      • Excellent research and analytical skills.
      • Outstanding problem-solving skills, including the ability to proactively identify obstacles and propose solutions or recommendations to overcome them.
      • Demonstrated ability to manage projects involving multiple people and deliverables, and to perform or quickly learn new tasks, systems, and technologies.
      • Ability to prioritize and efficiently execute many tasks, follow institutional procedures, and work independently with meticulous attention to detail.
      • Ability to work with a broad range of people on different projects.
      • Strict adherence to confidentiality requirements and discretion with sensitive information.
      • High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Outlook), in addition to knowledge of or ability to learn relevant industry and NRDC specific software and platforms.

      We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. Internal equity will be reviewed and considered to determine a final offer. For this position, the salary range is $90,000 to $99,500.

      Our offices are open and we are operating in a hybrid model. We offer NRDCers flexibility, and we ask them to come into the office and spend meaningful time there in collaboration with their colleagues. We call this purposeful presence.
