Senior Sovereign Analyst - Global Fixed Income

- Work in close collaboration with US and London based portfolio managers, traders, and other research analysts to provide thorough macro, sovereign, and political analysis and actionable investment recommendations. Work with a total return framework that emphasizes rates, foreign currency, and curve analysis. Provide relative value analysis between non-dollar and USD credit and support cross currency basis swap investment idea generation.
- Evaluate and monitor the credit quality characteristics of Central American and African emerging market hard currency and local market sovereign issuers, across the ratings spectrum. Conduct independent fundamental credit research and create historical and projected financial models which forecast the credit risk and potential rating changes of sovereign debt issuers. Evaluate, monitor, and communicate in a timely manner macroeconomic, fiscal, and political drivers. Assist portfolio managers with research and analysis in their process to form and implement their investment strategies and support other parts of the Nuveen organization as a subject matter expert.
- Contribute to all formal reports and research processes (internal ratings, recommendation lists, watch lists, etc.) that enable the efficient and transparent oversight of the asset class.
- Represent Nuveen Global Fixed Income Research in meetings with issuers and at conferences and industry events. Interface with internal business partners, assist in client interactions, and support ESG leadership and integration efforts in the sovereign space.
- Conduct country due diligence travel to engage with policymakers and other local market contacts.
- Collaborate closely with the EM corporate research analysts to ensure that risks are appropriately identified and communicated.

- 5+ years’ experience of economic, financial and political analysis, preferably at buy side firms.
- 7+ years’ experience of economic, financial and political analysis, preferably at buy side firms. Special emphasis on rates, FX, and sovereign credit research as well as some experience in a total rate of return environment
- Master’s degree or MBA degree preferred and additional qualifications such as a CFA designation a plus.
- Experience in sovereign distressed a plus as well as foreign language skills.
- Broad-based knowledge of rates, FX and sovereign credit analysis and investing in emerging market issuers, preferably with experience in Central America and Africa.
- Sound quantitative, analytical, critical thinking and financial modeling abilities, evidenced by academic and professional experience. Proficient knowledge of Excel, Bloomberg and Haver is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner. Resourceful and entrepreneurial attitude with an ability to work independently as part of a global research team.
- Experience working with issuers, policy makers, and industry relationships within the dedicated research coverage.

Nuveen’s Fixed Income Research Team is seeking to hire a senior research analyst to primarily cover emerging sovereign debt and rates markets for the NYC office location. The successful candidate will be an experienced, energetic, and contributing member of a highly successful group of investment professionals.
The right individual must have a robust understanding of developed and emerging markets across sovereign credit, rates, and FX analysis, with a preference for buy side experience. Important attributes include solid critical and analytical framework, written and verbal communication excellence, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will work with cross functional teams, including portfolio managers, traders, and research analysts in generating total return recommendations across a wide range of portfolio mandates, including global and international bond strategies, closed end funds, separately managed accounts, emerging market local and hard currency mandates, and General Account insurance mandates. The candidate’s critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills will be essential to providing valuable insights and recommendations to support investment decisions and risk management strategies.
The Global Fixed Income Research team supports numerous fixed income portfolio mandates that collectively manage approximately $533 billion in fixed income assets.
