      Job summary

      An exciting opportunity has become available to work in The Meadows and Medical Day Unit.

      Both of these units are outpatients areas, currently working 6 days a week. The Meadows specialises in the delivery of Systemic Anti-Cancer treatments (SACT) for all Haematology and Oncology patients.

      The Medical Day Unit supports the delivery of treatments for many medical departments in the trust to support patients with long term medical conditions.

      The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and experienced in the delivery of SACT with a positive attitude towards their work

      As a nursing team, we are hardworking and friendly and pride ourselves on a very high standard of patient care

      Main duties of the job

      The post holder will hold the relevant competencies required to manage these patients in the outpatient setting. An element of this role will be to support the private patients within The Meadows.

      The units also provides supportive therapies so the post holder must be proficient in administering blood products adhering to the Trust's guidelines on Blood Transfusion and dealing with adverse reactions.

      The post holder must be flexible to meet the demands of the unit. Good communication, organisational and interpersonal/negotiation skills are essential for this post, including educating and empowering patients and their carers.

To be aware of and comply with Health & Safety, COSHH, Manual Handling, Infection Control and Fire Safety measures.4. To act immediately and resolve where appropriate incidents, accidents, complaints or other undue occurrences and report to Sister/Senior Nurse or Matron.5. To maintain effective communication and professional relationships within all the divisions of the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and other agencies as needed

      Qualifications

      Essential

      • Registered Nurse Part 1, educated to diploma/degree level
      • Experience in teaching and education, of staff, patients and carers
      • Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) - level 6/7 module
      • Evidence of ongoing post registration education including haematological / oncological care

      Desirable

      • Evidence of involvement in complaints resolution.
      • Nurse led clinic experience
      • Understanding of the basic principles of effective staff Management

      Experience

      Essential

      • Thorough and up to date knowledge of best practice within Haematology and Oncology
      • Minimum of 2 years' experience at a Band 5 or above
      • Demonstrates evidence of ability to educate others
      • Experience of working as a preceptor/facilitator

      Desirable

      • Evidence of involvement in complaints resolution.
      • Nurse led clinic experience
      • Understanding of the basic principles of effective staff Management

      Knowledge

      Essential

      • Demonstrates evidence of well developed clinical practice
      • Clinical skills in Cannulation and Venepuncture; and ECG Recording, PICC care
      • Competently administer IV therapies
      • Competently administer SACT
