      Job Description:

      ICF seeks an experienced Sampling Statistician to support international population-based survey and evaluation activities funded by USAID’s Bureau for Resilience and Food Security (RFS) under the Surveys for Monitoring in Resilience and Food Security project. The ICF’s portfolio of food security and resilience activities include population-based household surveys and evaluations in Global Food Security Strategy target countries, resilience focus countries and BHA Development Food Security Activity countries. The sampling statistician will also participate in capacity strengthening activities for national statistical organizations and other data collection partners through training and mentoring. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Rockville, Maryland.

      Responsibilities:

      • Developing sample designs for household surveys and other types of research studies in developing countries
      • Designing sampling strategies for surveys and apply sampling methodologies to data analysis
      • Calculating weights for survey data and estimating sampling errors
      • Preparing descriptions of sampling procedures for project reports
      • Providing sampling related statistical advice to the staff and RFS
      • Providing technical assistance and training in sampling frame construction, sample design, sample size calculations, stratification, sample selection and weighting
      • Contributing to curriculum development and teaching for in-country capacity strengthening
      • Writing and presenting in English to a variety of audiences using advanced proficient English
      • Traveling to lower- and middle income countries up to 20% of the time

      Required Qualifications:

      • BS in in statistics or related field in demography, epidemiology, or economics with an emphasis on statistics
      • 4+ years’ experience designing samples for surveys in international settings, including designing samples for household and/or facility surveys, calculating weights for survey data, and calculating sampling errors (a masters degree in these fields can substitute for two years’ experience)
      • Familiarity with a wide range of advanced statistical techniques
      • Experience in developing sampling capacity of counterparts in host countries
      • Experience of working using the statistical packages like SAS, Stata, and/or R

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Fluency in French, Spanish or Portuguese

      Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:

      $103,672.00 - $176,242.00
