- Translation of software, technical and multimedia texts and collaterals into your native language
- Review (editing and proofing, 'revision') of translations done by other translators
- Understanding and correctly complying with SDL’s linguistic and project procedures and processes
- Meeting the required standards for quality, throughput and delivery deadlines
- Acting as lead translator on designated projects and accounts
- Managing terminology effectively
- Linguistic QA testing of localised software, help and websites
- Linguistic QA checking of localised DTP and audio output
- Using required translation tools in the most effective way, especially with regard to SDL’s language technology
- Full linguistic support for SDL project managers on your projects
- Communicating as a representative of SDL with client reviewers on linguistic matters
- Providing linguistic support for other SDL departments such as DTP, Engineering and Audio
- Accurately recording daily working time through use of Timesheet program
Management responsibilities - Mentoring translation team members to strengthen their skills
- Supporting your Manager in the recruitment of new translators through such activities as evaluating test translations
- Acting as deputy and back-up for other senior team members (such as Translation Line Manager) at the request of your Manager
- Actively contributing to the maintenance of high quality standards throughout the team

- 3 years minimum professional translation/localization experience
- Educated to degree level, preferably with a recognised qualification in translation or similar discipline
- Experience of working on large and demanding accounts in a ‘lead’ capacity
- Excellent translation ability in applicable subject areas, being able to produce translations which are accurate, linguistically correct, consistent, complete and adapted to country standards
- Highly quality conscious
Linguistic and textual competence - Native speaker ability in translation target language
- Excellent command of required source language
- Knowledge of major text type conventions for applicable languages
Research competence - Ability to research in depth a variety of subjects to acquire specialised knowledge
- Knowledge of Internet searching and tools
Cultural competence - High-level knowledge of cultural standards associated with source and target languages
Technical competence - High level of computer literacy and related technical competence
- Advanced knowledge of Translation Memory tools and linguistic technology, based on practical experience
Personal competences - Motivated self-starter, who can work on own initiative as well being a strong team player
- Proficient in mentoring other translators to achieve required standards and to strengthen skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Advanced organisational and time management skills
- Flexible and proactive approach to tackling tasks, combined with excellent problem solving skills
You will be responsible for delivering translations of the highest quality and accuracy, on time and within budget. You will act as lead translator for large and complex projects and accounts, performing tasks such as planning and managing the work of in-house and freelance translators, taking responsibility for required QA work such as review, and providing linguistic support to your project manager. Reporting to the Translation Line Manager or Translation Manager, you will be responsible for setting and maintaining the highest standards of linguistic and organisational excellence for the translation team. You will actively mentor members of the translation team, to ensure their continuous improvement and skills progression.
