      JOB SUMMARY

      Housing Services is responsible for the direct operations of the City's family shelters including the provision of offsite services with community agencies. Housing Services is also responsible for the direct operations of the City’s Physical Distancing Centres, supporting single men and women experiencing homelessness.

      You work within a multi-disciplinary setting using a consultative and team approach to provide support and services to families, couples and individuals who are experiencing homelessness within the City of Ottawa’s Family Shelter and Physical Distancing Centres to ensure a safe and secure living/working environment, and to support the stabilization and implementation of the Client Service Plan.

      EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

      Completion of Grade 12

      Community college diploma or university degree in a related field is desirable

      Minimum of 1 year of related experience in a social services setting

      CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

      Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates are assets
      Crisis Prevention/Intervention training certificate is an asset

      KNOWLEDGE

      • Community resources
      • Issues affecting homeless persons, families and women fleeing abuse
      • Strong knowledge of Ottawa’s shelter system and supporting agencies
      • Social services agencies and programs
      • City of Ottawa policies and procedures, departmental policies and procedures
      • Case management process for shelters
      • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
      • Training on HIFIS is desirable

      WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

      • Language Requirement:Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.
      • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Note: Under the age of 18, requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
      • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.; Additional vacancies may occur during the competition process
