      Responsibilities

      Summary/objective

      The Assistant Shop Manager plays a critical support role, working in tandem with the Shop Manager to oversee the daily operations of the PRG Scenic Technologies Las Vegas Shop. This involves a collaborative approach to task delegation, ensuring efficient workflow and maximizing the productivity of all shop processes. Vigilant quality control is paramount, as is the timely and accurate delivery of all scenery and rental items. Furthermore, the Assistant Shop Manager shares the responsibility for maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment, while upholding the highest operational standards expected of a PRG Scenic Technologies Shop. Their support allows the Shop Manager to focus on strategic initiatives while ensuring the smooth and effective execution of day-to-day operations.

      Supervisory responsibilities

      All Shop and Warehouse Personnel in Coordination with the Shop Manager

      Essential functions

      • Together with the Shop Manager, the Assistant Shop Manager:

        • Oversee all shop personnel, including effectiveness, job duties, and performance of shop employees. Manage the shop budget as set by the General Manager, and make sure policies and procedures set forth by PRG are implemented.
        • Fosters a climate of continuous improvement in safety, production, personnel relations, equipment, maintenance, and shop efficiency.
        • Supervises shop employees in work tasks to verify and ensure conformance to specifications, drawings, procedures, and quality, schedule, and budget.
        • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and the quality of customer products.
        • Oversee the planning and preparation of the fabrication shop schedule of all known and anticipated work based on staffing and material resources.
        • Manage shop capacity to ensure optimal resource utilization, streamlined workflow, and on-time order fulfillment.
        • Reviews drawings and specifications to assure compliance with design and safety requirements.
        • Evaluates project materials with the Project Managers to coordinate receipt and staging of materials purchased for each project.
        • Monitors and supports all shop projects maintaining high quality, on time delivery, safety, and staying within budget.
        • Provides safety, equipment operation and procedural training to fabrication shop staff, as needed.
        • Maintains a productive, efficient, and safe workplace.
        • Works with Project Managers, Project Coordinators and Technical Designers for timely and effective resolution of design challenges and issues.
        • Provides for the timely and effective resolving of problems and documenting the issues in an organized and detailed manner.
        • Ensures accurate and prompt submission of timesheets. Accurately assigning worked hours against the proper project job number and communicating with the project accounting to ensure accurate project cost tracking.
        • Makes determination of whether extra personnel are needed for the next workday, or if less people are needed.
      • Assistant Shop Manager:
        • Responsible person for the secondary shift when applicable.
        • Assists Operations Manager with their assigned duties.
        • Ensures that Shipping / Receiving employees are doing all of their required duties.
        • Manages the check in and check out log daily.
        • Ensures that all subrentals are returned on time, in a cost-effective manner.
        • Covers for Inbound Coordinator, Outbound Coordinator, Asset Manager, and Shipping/Receiving as needed.
        • Tracks and Manages equipment that is in repair and oversees process of relieving the “In Repair” equipment.
        • Oversees the maintenance of all the dock and truss rental equipment.

      Qualifications

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

      • Computer literacy in Microsoft Outlook, Project, Excel & Word (Abilities in CAD a plus).
      • Three to Five years’ experience in scenic shop or jobsite as a foreman or supervisor, scenic construction projects, or equivalent experience in related field.
      • Expert level knowledge of all fabrication methods, procedures, and quality control.
      • Ability to read and interpret shop construction drawings.
      • The ability to communicate and work effectively with Project Managers, field personnel, customers, and employees
      • Is the secondary point of contact for all information related to the shop by the Project Coordinators, Project Managers, Technical Designers and General Manager.
      • Able to work before and after regular business hours with or without notice.
      • Shares the responsibility of the “After Hours Primary Phone” with the Shop Foreman.

      Physical demands

      • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
      • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

      Other duties

      • Understanding of and compliance with company policies.
      • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime, including weekends and holidays, when needed.

      Travel requirements

      • As required; Must have a valid driver’s license.

      Required education and experience

      • High school diploma or equivalent education.
      • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
      • Experience working in a Windows / MAC OS based environment.
