The employee will serve as the Social Science Program Specialist (Trainer) which is part of the Veterans Crisis Line (VCL). The VCL is a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week, 365-days-a-year service aimed at connecting callers worldwide to a caring, qualified Veterans Administration employee. The VCL's mission is to provide 24/7, world-class suicide prevention and crisis intervention services to Veterans, Service Members and their family members.Duties
Remote Job: This is a remote position. Selectees will work 100% of the time in a non-VA-owned space that may be within or outside the commuting area of the agency. The employee's workspace must be suitable for conducting business and as such, remote employees are expected to provide a secure, distraction-free home-based worksite with reliable high speed internet connectivity. The employee will be required to travel to the closest VA Medical Center or VA Outpatient Clinic for issuance of equipment, and as needed for technical support. Selectees will be required to self-certify that their remote workplace meets all safety, privacy and internet speed requirements.

The Trainer is the key position to train staff, both as new employees as well as providing ongoing training. For this remote position, salary advertised is based on general pay scale range and actual salary will be determined based on location of selection.

Qualifications
English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT - Applicants must first meet one of the basic requirements listed below:
Possess a Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to this position. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) ~OR~
Possess four (4) years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. ~OR~
Possess a combination of education and experience that provided you with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social science equivalent to a major in the field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS - In addition to meeting the above requirements, you must also meet one of the requirements listed below to qualify for this position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:Applicants must also have at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: developing and implementing training materials including power points, assessments, webinars and manuals; experience in crisis intervention; training in a call center industry including suicide prevention skills; and administrating pre- and post-test evaluation of staff learning. Experience assessing progress and providing ongoing feedback to trainees on areas of strength and areas needing improvement. Experience engaging in classroom management.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) - Applicants must possess 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or LL.M, or equivalent doctoral degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. ~OR~
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) - Combination of successfully completed equivalent combinations of education and specialized experience (as described above) to meet the total requirements of this position. The education must have provided you with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences.
You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:
IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Requirements: No unusual physical effort is required. The work may require some physical effort such as standing, walking and bending.
