- Under direct supervision, design, develop, code, and test technical solutions.
- Write code to deliver features, and improvements, on a regular basis
- Verify and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques.
- Improve application stability and scalability
- Create and maintain technical documentation
- Create and improve automated tests and code quality
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
- Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT)
- Up to 2 years of software development experience.
- Foundational and conceptual knowledge of function/discipline and demonstrated application of knowledge, skills, and abilities towards work products.
- Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL
- Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
- Experience in the Retail Banking industry, specifically USAA Deposits Servicing experiences
- Experience with developing micro-service, event driven Kafka, and AWS solutions
- Experience developing and maintaining robust backend services and APIs using Java
- Proven success in delivering technical solutions with some independence, while collaborating solutions in a team environment
- Working knowledge in USAA application maintenance and support
- Experience utilizing SAFe/Agile execution methodologies.
- Strong working knowledge of our regulatory environment
- US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner

Job DescriptionAs a dedicated Software Engineer Early Career, you will provide support to the Enterprise through delivering best in class technology solutions. Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.To fully deliver these imperatives, we have developed technical training curriculum to establish base-level knowledge essential to software development standards and practices used within application development teams at USAA. After successfully completing the training curriculum, you will be assigned to an application development team.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, or Phoenix, AZ. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $61,110.00 - $116,800.00.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
