      Req#: R35958

We are a diverse team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will be in a hands-on role onsite at our Los Angeles Facility with the Space Resources Program team. We develop and demonstrate In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) technologies for the Moon and beyond. We're seeking a hands-on mechanical engineer to engage in all phases of rapid product development, from conceptualization through design, implementation, integration, and environmental testing. We value self-motivated people who can find practical solutions to abstract problems. We work in fast-paced cycles of design, analysis, and test to deliver solutions.

      Qualifications:

      • Minimum of B.S. degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
      • 2+ years of applicable work experience.
      • Expertise in 3D CAD programs (Creo or similar), including GD&T.
      • Hands-on fabrication, assembly, and testing of mechanical systems.
      • Experience with thermal modeling, analysis, and design.
      • Subsystem integration within highly integrated system-level designs.
      • Experience with at least one of the following: high-temperature systems, high-temperature materials, high-current systems, or electrolysis.
      • Knowledge of versioning tools (Git, Windchill or similar).
      • Experience coordinating procurement with suppliers, partners, and vendors.
      • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
      • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion.
      • Applicants for employment at Blue Origin must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

      Desired:

      • 5+ years of related work experience.
      • Worked in an agile development environment (“scrum cycles”).
      • Developed and delivered space flight hardware.
      • Experience in all stages of the product life cycle.
      • Experience working with vacuum chamber testbeds.
      • Experience (or interest) in lunar & planetary exploration.
      • Experience (or interest) in robotics, automation, and controls.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single desired qualification. At Blue Origin, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
