      Job Description

      The Agency You’ll Join

The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five
boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. New York City
Mayor Eric Adams is head of the executive branch of New York City's government. Previously, Mayor
Adams has served the people of New York City as an NYPD officer, state senator, and Brooklyn borough
president. The Adams’ administration is leading the fight to serve the people of the greatest city in the
world, ensuring delivery of efficient and effective services, working to make New York City’s economy
stronger, reducing inequality, improving public safety, and making the city more affordable that meets
the needs of all New Yorkers. We value leadership, transparency, fairness, and efficiency as we actively
seek diverse talents from various sectors to join our team.

      The Team You’ll Work With

New York City is one of the most diverse cities in the world, and the news publications its residents
read and consume reflect that diversity. The Mayor’s Office of Ethnic and Community Media (MOECM)
promotes City services and programs through partnerships with a diverse array of media outlets and
CBOs/Nonprofits that serve people across the five boroughs. MOECM was established by Local Law 83
of 2021, which sets a goal for City agencies to spend at least fifty percent of their advertising budget on
Ethnic and Community Media (ECM) outlets.

Ethnic and Community Media outlets are defined as newspapers, websites, and broadcast media
outlets that serve communities of people based on factors like native language, race, color, gender,
national origin, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or immigrant status; and outlets that
target discrete neighborhoods, geographic regions, or populations within the city rather than the city
      as a whole.

      The Problems You’ll Solve

MOECM facilitates interactions between Ethnic and Community Media outlets and City agencies; advises
the Mayor and high-level officials on communicating government information to the public; oversees
the Local Law 83 ECM spending goal; oversees the development and implementation of advertising
campaigns citywide; and publishes an annual report on advertising spending by City agencies and
      Mayoral offices.

The Special Assistant to ECM will report to the Executive Director and provide key staff and program
oversight. This role requires strong communication, project management, and personnel management
      skills.
      - Working with the MOECM team on short-term and long-term special projects.
      - Identifying appropriate resources at MOECM for project completion.
      - Identifying intra-departmental collaborations and fostering cross-unit collaboration.

o Staffing meetings by drafting agendas, preparing presentation materials, compiling and
      sharing summary notes, and scheduling.
o Coordinating with team members and agency partners to make sure projects and
      deliverables are on track.
      - Acting as a liaison to City agencies. Outlets, and external stakeholders to track and monitor
progress on a portfolio of MOECM projects.
      - Undertaking special projects and will be expected to manage to completion.
