This position will provide professional investigative services to a workgroup of attorneys in the Public Defender’s Office. This office provides client centered representation to both adult and juvenile clients. Empathy for clients experiencing the worst moments in their lives is necessary.HIRING SALARY RANGE: $48,048 - $62,961 (Estimated Annual Salary)

This position requires significant in-person contact with clients, witnesses, and parties involved in a variety of complex criminal proceedings. The ability to exercise professional judgment in very sensitive situations is required. Duties will include but are not limited to locating and interviewing witnesses; writing reports to preserve information and witness statements; serving subpoenas to individuals and for documents; relaying information between client and attorney; serving as a liaison between the attorney and client families; transportation of clients for placement; transportation of witnesses for court dates; and preparation of exhibits for trial.Position requires an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree supplemented with three (3) years or more of investigative, detective, or police officer experience.Knowledge of investigative and interviewing standards and techniques required. Graduation from the Criminal Justice Academy is desired. Computer skills are a must with proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Flexibility in the work schedule is necessary and will include after-hours and weekend work as needed. This position is not eligible for a remote work option. Salary and classification will be dependent on relevant experience. Use of a County take-home vehicle ($3 per day). Must have valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain a South Carolina license.
