- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice at time of appointment
- Medical Degree from a recognised university
- FRCS (Urol) or recognised equivalent qualification
- Meets the criteria set out in the Specialist grade generic capabilities framework
- Higher Degree
- Specialist Registration
- Completed a minimum of 12 years medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in Urology in the Speciality Doctor and/or closed SAS grades
- Equivalent years experience in relevant speciality from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted
- Working towards a CESR
- Independent practice in Urology
- Practices with professional values and behaviours expected of all doctors as set out in GMC Good Medical Practice and Generic Professional Capabilities Framework (or equivalent for Dentists)
- Demonstrates the underpinning subject-specific competencies i.e. knowledge, skills and behaviours relevant to the role setting and scope
- Clinically evaluates and manages a patient, formulating a prioritised differential diagnosis, initiating an appropriate management plan and reviewing and adjusting this depending of outcomes of treatment
- Manages the difficulties of dealing with complexity and uncertainty in the care of patients, employing expertise and clinical decision making skills of a senior and independent autonomous practitioner
- Critically reflects on own competence, understands own limits and seeks help when required
- Communicates effectively and can share decision making with patients, relatives and carers
- Respects patients' dignity, ensures confidentiality and appropriate communication where potential barriers exist
- Adheres to professional requirements, participating in annual appraisal, job planning and reviews of performance and progression
- Awareness of leadership responsibilities as a clinician and demonstrates appropriate leadership behaviour
- Develops effective relationships across teams and contributes to work and success of these teams - promotes and participates in both MDT and interprofessional team working

Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of a Urology Specialist Doctor at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust (UHMBT). This is a permanent full time post in Urology working together in conjunction with 5 Consultants, an Associate Specialist, 2 Specialists and 6 Speciality Doctors.
You will work as part of the Urology team to provide a high quality Urology service that aims to prove excellent patient care. This includes delivery of out-patients, emergency work, day-case and inpatient services independently. You will be expected to manage their own work programme within the broad parameters of department policies and procedures, and will be responsible for determining the associated work activities using their initiative.

Main duties of the job
You will be expected to work across all of our hospital sites on a 7-week rota basis alongside their Consultant/Associate Specialist colleagues. The post holder will also be expected to take on on-call responsibilities and will be part of the Middle Grade Doctor 1:6 on-call rota progressing to the Consultant 1:7 on call rota supported by the middle grade doctors.
As a guide, for the 10PA job plan, this will include independent new patient 'one-stop' clinics, follow up clinics, theatre lists, on-call, an admin session and an SPA session. You will have the opportunity to develop a sub speciality interest of your choice.
About us
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
