- Lead the development and implementation of ad-hoc sessions, which includes abstract programs and procedural skills sessions at Annual Meeting and Innovation Academy. Develop abstract books and abstract supplements for publication in the AAD’s journal. Work with Meetings & Conventions on logistics, Development & Revenue to solicit of in-kind support as needed, and Marketing on promotion. Actively review systems and processes for streamlining and efficiency.
- Lead the development of the event-based educational courses, either in person or virtual, in conjunction with the Council on Education and its constituent Committees and Task Forces including solicitation, collection, and tracking of required faculty participation submissions (e.g. faculty disclosures, course information, handouts, etc.); coordination and distribution of faculty communications; confirmation of faculty assignments; and the maintenance of electronic session files. Work with Meetings & Conventions on logistics, Development & Revenue to solicit of in-kind support as needed, and Marketing on promotion.
- Co-manage, with Specialist, Education the technical systems used to manage scientific sessions, including the session application and abstract submission websites for the Annual and Innovation Academy, ensuring they integrate with AAD systems such as the AMS and LMS.
- Provide Council, Committee, and Task Force support which may include preparing agendas, correspondence, and summation reports for conference calls and face-to-face meetings. For face-to-face meetings, work with the Meetings & Conventions Department to secure meeting space and arrange logistics (i.e., refreshments and A/V).
- Provide support to the Scientific Assembly Committee and Course Directors during the program development process. Provide onsite support at the Annual Meeting, Innovation Academy, and standalone courses as requested, coordination of faculty assignments, staffing of convention office, etc. working closely with Education and Meetings & Conventions staff.
- Assist in the maintenance of education activity files as assigned in compliance with Accreditation Council on Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Essentials, Criteria, Standards, and Policies and in compliance with AAD policies and procedures. Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with ACCME Essentials, Criteria, Standards, and Policies. Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with AMA credit policies. Provide reports regarding live activities as requested for submission to the ACCME as requested.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in specialized field with minimum 3 years’ experience in event-based education and communicating with subject matter experts.
- Knowledge of ACCME Essentials and Guidelines a plus.
- Travel and evening/weekend work required.
- Ability to apply effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication methods required including proofreading skills.
- Possess organizational skills, ability to prioritize assignments, meet deadlines and work independently on various projects.
- Strong attention to detail skills required.
- Able to operate standard and advanced office equipment, i.e. copiers, etc. Strong organization and follow-up skills required.
- Proficiency in MS Office and strong database management skills essential.
- Able to adapt procedures, processes, and techniques to meet the more complex requirements of the position, reviewing possible alternatives with management.
- Able to organize and prioritize tasks to have assignments completed accurately within established deadlines.
The American Academy of Dermatology is seeking a Specialist, Education located in our Rosemont office responsible for leading the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational content for the AAD’s larger live education meetings and additional virtual and/or in-person educational activities as assigned. Co-manage the technical systems used to manage scientific sessions. Work collaboratively with fellow Education Specialists; Managers; Director, Digital Learning; Director, Education, Vice President, Continuing Professional Education, and other AAD Departments.
