      Job summary

      We are welcoming applications in Sunderland for B7 Specialist Nurse Child Protection position; this is an exciting opportunity to join our Safeguarding Team in Sunderland. The post will be working equally between the Front Door (ICRT) and as a SNCP in Sunderland. You will be working as part of the network of professionals and agencies within Sunderland who contribute to safeguarding children. Utilising your specialist knowledge of safeguarding, child development, and legal frameworks you will work to support the Named Nurse in providing assurances that the safeguarding Team delivers care which is of good quality and assures the trust and it's wider partners.

      • Analyse health information to produce high quality reports with recommendations for MASH to assist in safeguarding children in the ICRT (Front Door).To contribute to and undertake, alongside the other Senior Nurse's for Child Protection audits.
      • To support the Named Nurse in producing information for inclusion in the quarterly contract report and the safeguarding annual report
      • To support in the delivery of Safeguarding training within the locality as required
      • To be a safeguarding peer supervisor for the 0-19 (25) team
      • To offer support and advice to Practitioners regarding frontline support to safeguard children and escalations when necessary
      • Support staff new to the trust and students to meet the safeguarding competencies within the Preceptor period

      Main duties of the job

      Establish effective working relationships and networks with all professionals and agencies contributing to safeguarding of children and young people in Sunderland. Using good levels of knowledge of child development, the law and good knowledge about risks, identify when there is a need to professionally challenge a decision. To support the Safeguarding Children's Team in the delivery of safeguarding children training, supervision and audit. Provide advice and support to partner agencies, and the Sunderland 0-19 (25) service. Provide advice to Health Professionals and Professionals in other agencies about health needs and signpost to the appropriate health provider, referring to Senior members of the Safeguarding Children team as appropriate.

      The contribution of the health role will include:

      • Analyse health information on various health systems to produce high quality reports with recommendations to safeguard children.
      • To attend complex case strategy meetings and where needed ICPCs
      • Confidently challenge partners when threshold of risk is not appropriate to safeguard the child/adult.
      • To participate in complex Strategy discussions when a child is at imminent risk of harm
      • Support 0-19 (25) service to ensure children/adults are safeguarded.
      • Facilitate Safeguarding Children training and staff supervision.
      • Contribute to and attend various multi agency meetings relating to safeguarding children and adults.
