What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Code outpatient records for various medical services following federal and state guidelines
- Review clinical documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance in coding practices
- Resolve coding edits and denials to facilitate clean claim submissions
- Maintain productivity and accuracy standards set by the employer
- Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff to address coding-related inquiries
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Certified Professional Coding Certification (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or other related certification from AHIMA or AAPC
- Completion of a coding training program covering anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and relevant coding systems
- Minimum of 2 years of hospital outpatient coding experience
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems demonstrated through assessments
- Strong understanding of Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) and related coding policies
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification
- 3 years of hospital outpatient coding experience
- Advanced PC skills, including expertise in word processing and spreadsheets
