ABOUT HMM:
Hotazel Manganese Mines (HMM) is made up of two Manganese mines Mamatwan and Wessels. Both operations are located in the Kalahari Basin, home to 80 per cent of the world’s manganese reserves.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
This role is a permanent full-time position.
As a Specialist Socio-economic Development, you’ll support the objective of the South32 External Affairs team to be a responsible and trusted partner by contributing to the socio-economic development of areas where we operate for mutual benefit. The purpose of the role is to design, deliver, monitor and evaluate social development projects that address local needs, complement government development plans, align with the Sustainable Development Goals (in particular SDG 3 – Health and Wellbeing and SDG 4 – Quality Education) and support operational objectives for the long-term sustainable development of the region.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
•Identify opportunities for social development projects in local and regional communities, with a particular focus on SDG 3 – Health and Wellbeing and SDG 4 – Quality Education
•Develop projects that align with local government development plans and business priorities
•Execute social development projects on time, budget and quality including adhering to required governance structures
•Adhere to all compliance requirements as part of internal project management processes
•Monitor and evaluate projects as per South32’s Social Performance Standard and report outcomes on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
•Develop, execute and coordinate stakeholder engagement for allocated stakeholders
ABOUT YOU:
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
•At least 8 years’ experience in developing and executing community development projects, especially SLPs for mining operations, preferably in the Northern Cape.
•Knowledge of Mining Charter, Social and Labour Plans and Transformation
•In depth knowledge and experience in impact measurement of community projects
•Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement with government, business, local communities and civil society
Qualifications for this role are:
•Degree in Social Development, Social Sciences, Sustainability or related discipline.
