  ABOUT THE ROLE:

  This role is a permanent full-time position.

  As a Specialist Socio-Economic Development , you will be responsible to support the objective of the South32 External Affairs team to be a responsible and trusted partner by contributing to the socio-economic development of areas where we operate for mutual benefit. The purpose of the role is to design, deliver, monitor and evaluate social development projects that address local needs, complement government development plans, align with the Sustainable Development Goals ( in particular SDG 3 – Health and Wellbeing and SDG 4 – Quality Education) and support operational objectives for the long-term sustainable development of the region.

  Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Identify opportunities for social development projects in local and regional communities, with a particular focus on SDG 3 – Health and Wellbeing and SDG 4 – Quality Education;

  • Execute social development projects on time, budget and quality including adhering to required governance structures;

  • Adhere to all compliance requirements as part of internal project management processes;

  • Monitor and evaluate projects as per South32’s Social Performance Standard and report outcomes on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis;

  • Communications: support communication of community investment and other social value initiatives including case studies, media releases, internal communications etc,;

  • Stakeholder relations: attend engagements with local and district communities, and provincial and national when required.

  ABOUT YOU:

  You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in developing and executing community development projects in Mozambique, especially for communities surrounding mining, oil and gas or industrial operations;

  • Knowledge management capabilities to bring innovation and best practice to social development projects;

  • Excellent knowledge of SDGs and implementing projects to align with these indicators;

  • Experience in managing people;

  • Written and spoken Portuguese, English and one Local Language;

  • Strong monitoring and evaluation skills for social projects focused on results and impact.

  Qualifications for this role are :

  • Degree in Social Development, Social Sciences, Sustainability or related discipline.
