      About the role

      Iron Ore Sales and Marketing under RT Commercial (RTC) is responsible for the distribution and placement of shipments of more than 330 Million tonnes per annum of Rio Tinto iron ore (RTIO) generating sales revenues exceeding US$30 Billion pa. The iron ore market continues to evolve with the competitive landscape becoming both more complex and fragmented. Understanding RTIO products’ competitive strengths and then using this knowledge to drive superior margin performance through a combination of effective long term product placement and shorter-term tactical placement decisions is critical for continuing success, as the iron ore market transitions from being supply constrained to demand constrained.

      We are looking for a Specialist Technical Marketing to be based in Shanghai!

      This role is a great opportunity for a strong techno-commercial person who is passionate about technical marketing and helping businesses achieve their goals.

      Reporting to the Manager Technical Marketing – China, you will be:

      • Plan and implement high quality technical engagements with customers across one or several regions in China to promote RT iron ore products and develop new customers.
      • Support commercial teams to achieve maximum sales revenues across all sales channels
      • Lead and/or support and contribute to the development and execution of business initiatives and strategies.
      • Provide first-hand data and information to support VIU modelling, and customer technical segmentation works.
      • Gain insights into industry, customers, market, and technical trend to identify risk and opportunity for RT iron ore products.
      • Develop and maintain customer relationships, continually increase customer satisfaction through providing the best technical service fully to unlock RT product’s value.
      • Together with Operation Engagement team investigate quality incidents and settle quality disputes with customers.
      • Conducting regular assessment and study of industry policy (including environment policy) and advising its impact on Iron ore business and steel industry and market.

      About you

      • Relevant tertiary qualifications (Master’s degree or above is preferred) in a technical discipline including metallurgical/chemical/process/mining engineering.
      • Strong command of English language, verbal and written
      • Strong knowledge of Chinese iron and steel industry
      • Strong knowledge of ironmaking and steelmaking technologies and operations
      • Profound working experience (minimum 5 years) in steel industry or relevant industries
      • Ability to work in a team.
      • Customer and commercially orientated, with strong influencing skills.
      • Self-motivation with proactive attitude
      • Willing to travel extensively
      • Strong communication skills
