Job summary
We are looking for Specialty Doctor to join our busy, but friendly ENT team, based at Southend.
The ENT Department currently has 6 beds on an adult short stay surgical ward and access to the day stay ward. Up to 12 children's beds are also available to this specialty on the paediatric ward.
Emergency and major head and neck inpatient surgery is centralised at Broomfield Hospital, with a hub and spoke model. A wide range of ENT surgery, including tympanomastoid surgery, head and neck surgery, rhinoplasty and endoscopic sinus surgery is well-established. Almost all otological and rhinological and benign head and neck surgeries are carried out at Basildon.
The Department's own outpatient facilities are self-contained with en suite Audiology facilities and Hearing Aid Department. The clinic is fully equipped with facilities for fibre-optic flexible and rigid nasendoscopy.
There is a modern Audiology Department with its own ERA equipment. Facilities for the dissection of temporal bones are available. The department also provides an Outpatient ENT service at Brentwood Community Hospital as well as other community based clinics in the Basildon area.

Main duties of the job
The duties of the appointee will involve working in the outpatient clinics, operating theatre and ward(s). It includes middle grade on-call (non-resident) for the Essex ENT network. Clinical responsibility will be to the Consultant ENT Surgeons.
A wide range of ENT surgery, including tympanomastoid surgery, head and neck surgery, rhinoplasty and endoscopic sinus surgery is well-established. Almost all otological and rhinological and benign head and neck surgeries are carried out at Basildon.
Undertaking day case/23 hour stay operating lists, with supervision as deemed necessary.
Outpatient clinics, usually in conjunction with one of the Consultant ENT Surgeons. However there may be occasions when the appointee will be required to undertake outpatient clinics without direct supervision.
Deputising for absent colleagues in theatres, wards and outpatient clinics and other areas, as necessary, at a level commensurate with the appointee's experience and ENT capability.
