      LabCorp is seeking a Specialty Lab Assistant to join our team in Los Angeles, CA. This role works in a high-volume, production-based environment performing a vital component of the lab.

      • Pay Range: Minimum $17.50- Maximum $20/ hourly+ 2nd shift differential

      • Work Schedule : Monday-Friday 11:30am-8:00pm, with flexibility to cover weekends, holidays, different hours and/ or overtime based on operational need.

      Job Duties/Responsibilities:

      • Perform specimen accessing and processing tasks based on laboratory SOPs
      • Making sample follow up phone-calls
      • Introduce and prepare biological specimens to the laboratory to ensure accurate processing
      • Open specimens and pour off into secondary containers to prepare for analysis and testing
      • Verify patient demographic information matches the test requisition form submitted
      • Data entry of patient information into the computer system for tracking purposes
      • Meet key production metrics and quality measures to ensure timely and accurate results
      • Unpack and route specimens to their respective staging areas
      • Pack and ship specimens to proper testing facilities when required
      • Properly prepare and store excess specimen samples
      • Resolve and document any problem specimens
      • Handle and dispose of medical and chemical waste
      • Comply with applicable environmental health and safety policies and procedures
      • Operate automated instrumentation under supervision if necessary
      • Performs routine instrument maintenance on some equipment
      • Performs laboratory tasks of centrifuging specimens, printing extra labels, recording/ monitoring data (temperature charts), specimen storage and retrieval
      • Preparing routine reagents in the department
      • Preparing specimens at workstations for testing. (including building worklists, aliquoting specimens into sample cups, checking specimens for clots, fibrin, ect.
      • Loading, running and unloading routine analyzers
      • Resolves pending lists
      • Finds missing samples
      • Decontaminates work areas
      • Maintains files for department records
      • Follows all PPE requirements and all safety regulations
      • Disposes of biohazardous material
      • Assists with the department quality improvement program
      • Completes training and competency checklists as appropriate

      Job Requirements:

      • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent w/1-2 years of experience
      • Previous medical/lab or production experience is preferred
      • Comfortability with handling biological specimens
      • Ability to accurately identify specimens
      • Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills
      • High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask
      • Ability to work in a fast paced production environment and meet established turn-around times
      • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
      • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
      • Must pass a standardized color blindness test
      • Flexibility to work on weekends, holidays, different hours and/ or overtime based on operational need .
