      Provide your expertise to staff and other Probation Officers on case management issues

      Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General - The Community Corrections Division of the Corrections Branch delivers programs and services to adult offenders or alleged offenders awaiting trial or sentencing, who are serving community-based sentences of the court, or conditional release from custody. The intent of these programs and services is to enhance public safety by assessing and managing the risk of the offender and providing intervention to change behaviour. The Community Corrections and Corporate Programs Division require dedicated people to fill the position of Senior Probation Officer.

      As Senior Probation Officer you are responsible for the support and supervision of all Probation Officers in relation to the case management of the assessed risk and needs of identified complex offenders, specifically those with addiction and mental health issues. You directly supervise Probation Officer 24s when required by the local manager.

      You shoulder broad responsibilities in support of the Local Manager in working with diverse community partners with respect to the delivery of a range of services within the community. You are pivotal to ensuring that a multi-disciplinary approach is applied in complex cases and that it is balanced with the maintenance of community safety. You manage all staff training plans and participate as required in staff training and development activities. An effective communicator and leader, you excel in teamwork and team building skills.

      Job Requirements:

      • Bachelor’s degree (4 years: 120 credits) from a recognized Canadian institution.
      • Two years or more experience as a full working level probation officer in a Canadian jurisdiction, a combination of community corrections related program or policy analyst work, projects or training may be deemed equivalent.
      • Valid class 5 BC driver’s license, a class 7 may be considered.
      • Travel to other geographic locations may be required.
      • Evening or weekend work may be required for operational reasons.


      Preference may be given to applicants who have completed:

      • Sexually Motivated Offender training.

      There are two (2) temporary opportunities available at Surrey South and Surrey North Community Corrections.
      These are temporary opportunities until January 2025 and August 2024. .
      An eligibility list may be established.
      Flexible work options are available; these positions may be able to work 1 day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
      Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
