- Provide direction and/or expert-level participation in the development and maintenance of records necessary to accurately and efficiently provide management with information on all financial aspects of the company for one or more functional accounting areas, while ensuring compliance with all corporate standard practices as well as contractual, legal and reporting requirements and regulations (e.g., contract terms, tariff provisions, state laws, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations, Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements, Security Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations, U.S. Treasury, banking institutions, etc.
- Lead in the preparation and review of financial statements, reports, regulatory filings and various supporting schedules for internal and external reporting purposes, maintaining compliance with all Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) requirements and regulations
- Conduct complex accounting and financial research, analysis and work assignments in compliance with all corporate standard practices as well as contractual and legal requirements and regulations
- Lead and review the recordation, analysis and reporting of gas costs/volumes and regulatory account transactions; direct research and documentation of unique transactions and regulatory requirements.
- Identify, research, analyze and report on all regulatory issues and/or changes which have an accounting impact
- Assist in the preparation of company quarterly and annual reports and SEC filings, including supporting documentation
- Develop responses to data requests from regulatory commissions and external parties
- Direct, motivate, train and evaluate staff members, as applicable
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Regular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job
The Senior Analyst/Accounting is an individual contributor in one of the following functions in the Controller’s area of Southwest Gas Corporation: Accounting Control, External Financial Reporting, Gas and Regulatory Accounting, Contract Audit, General Accounting, Internal Financial Reporting, and Property Accounting.
POSITION DIMENSIONS
Reporting directly to this position is up to one exempt support staff personnel. The incumbent infrequently exchanges information with senior management and frequently exchanges information with department heads and professional level personnel within and outside the Controller's area, outside vendors, consultants and suppliers.
QUALIFICATIONS
There are clear precedents and practices that the incumbent uses as guidelines to determine how this job is performed. This position requires four to six years of relevant work experience degree from an accredited university in Accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential job responsibilities.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred. Utility industry experience preferred.

$77,716 - $116,574
