What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review clinical documentation to extract data and assign appropriate codes
- Ensure accurate MS-DRG or APR-DRG assignment for optimal classification
- Identify and recommend physician queries for incomplete documentation
- Maintain HIS quality and productivity standards
- Follow-up on bill holds, physician queries, and audit reviews for timely billing
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Associate degree in health information technology or successful completion of a coding certification program
- Coding certification required from AHIMA or AAPC
- 3-5 years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility
- Strong understanding of medical record content, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records, encoder programs, and Microsoft Office
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Familiarity with outpatient coding
- Experience with telecommuting or remote work agreements
