      About the Role

      Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, we’re looking for a visionary leader who thrives at the intersection of purpose, community, and impact. As Senior Director of Community Engagement & Purpose, you will drive initiatives that amplify our values, energize our employees, and strengthen our reputation as a company committed to bridging gaps for a better world.

      This isn’t just about programs—it’s about movements. You’ll amplify efforts like employee volunteering, San Francisco revitalization, Gap Foundation initiatives, and global purpose-driven partnerships, while crafting narratives that inspire action and foster trust. You’ll also centralize and power the communications planning for these initiatives and provide transparency to executive leadership, ensuring alignment and accountability across every initiative.

      Bringing a “why not” mindset, you’ll help us push boundaries, convene coalitions, and create scalable solutions that transform communities and elevate our legacy.

      What You'll Do

      Amplification, Strategy & Leadership

      • Gap Foundation: Support the vision and execution of Gap Foundation programs, ensuring alignment with corporate purpose and measurable impact.

      • Employee Volunteerism: Oversee employee volunteering strategy, scaling programs that align with company values and deliver measurable impact. Develop programs that activate Gap Inc.’s presence in key communities, leveraging brand platforms and employee networks to drive meaningful change.

      • San Francisco Revitalization: Partner closely with Government Affairs to advance Gap Inc.’s San Francisco revitalization efforts. Amplify programs focused on cross-sector partnerships, local engagement, and strategic investments in community infrastructure and programming. Work cross-functionally to inspire internal and external stakeholders through compelling storytelling that showcases community transformation.

      Storytelling & External Communications

      • Develop integrated storytelling campaigns that elevate Gap Inc.’s role as a catalyst for positive change, using multimedia formats to reach diverse audiences.

      • Build narratives that humanize impact—spotlighting employees, partners, and communities—to strengthen brand reputation and deepen emotional connection.

      • Craft and execute a social media strategy for purpose-driven initiatives, ensuring authentic, engaging content that resonates across platforms

      Measurement & Impact

      • Establish KPIs and reporting frameworks to track effectiveness and reach of purpose initiatives.

      • Provide clear reporting and insights on purpose initiatives, media engagement, and emerging opportunities to inform decision-making and demonstrate impact.

      Who You Are

      • 15+ years in corporate social responsibility, ESG, public affairs, or community engagement.
      • Proven track record of leading large-scale purpose initiatives with measurable outcomes.
      • Deep understanding of social impact strategy, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration.
      • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with experience influencing senior leaders and external partners
      • Passion for community building and engagement, philanthropy, and equity.
      • Strong leadership skills with a history of guiding high-performing teams.
