      Summary of Job Duties:

      Position Details

      Writing Studio Consultants in the Student Success Center support student learning by helping undergraduate and graduate students strengthen their writing skills, with the main focus on academic writing skills. Conducting interactive, one-on-one sessions, consultants provide feedback to writers on every aspect of the writing process across various academic disciplines. Additionally, consultants support student writers by creating writing-guide documents, presenting workshops, monitoring the Writing Studio email account, and welcoming students to the Writing Studio. Graduate Consultants may also meet weekly for repeat appointments with graduate students who are working on longer writing projects, such as a dissertation or thesis. This position requires excellent writing and communication skills and the desire to help students succeed. Consultants must work a minimum of five hours per week.

      Responsibilities and Requirements

      Conduct one-on-one consultations, both in-person and online, focusing on student writing development

      Complete data entry using required database software

      Document and communicate student progress/consultation notes

      Participate in required training and complete certification process

      Attend staff meetings

      Present workshop material to classes and other groups

      Complete projects and perform miscellaneous duties as directed


      Qualifications:

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Currently enrolled graduate student at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

      • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.25

      • Excellent academic writing skills (assessed via blind review of applicant's writing sample)

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.5

      • One semester of experience working in a writing center or related academic support experience

      • Knowledge of/experience with writing in the sciences, nursing, engineering, public speaking, and/or the needs of ESOL writers

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

      • Knowledge of academic writing and citation systems

      • Knowledge of basic word processing software and email systems

      • Skilled in one-to-one and group interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

      • Skilled in conducting online meetings or consultations

      • Ability to maintain confidentiality

      • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision

      • Ability to adapt to changing situations and troubleshoot appointment issues when necessary


      Additional Information:

      Graduate students subject to background checks.


      Salary Information:

      $17.00 per hour with a potential 5% raise after completion of training
